Colron SHIELD the danger!
Colron take the points and record yet another clean sheet...
Lichfield City 0 – Colron 3 (Sunday 29th January 2012)
In freezing conditions a full complement of diehards were present, for our second visit of the month to Beacon Park; however, this time in the Shield. We won 2-1 earlier in the month and were obviously hoping for a similar result which would more than likely put us top of the Shield league.
The game got underway at 10:30 with Colron taking the game to Lichfield from the off. We were having all the possession showing good urgency and determination. Our early pressure resulted in a good chance which fell to James but despite a decent strike the keeper managed to tip his shot onto the bar and Lichfield were able to clear the danger.
Just past the midpoint of the half our pressure finally told and we managed to take the lead thanks to a great strike from Joe. Following good build up play down the left the ball fell to Joe who hit a shot from outside the box which looped over the keeper to put us 1-0 up.
Shortly after taking the lead and following good build up play, this time down the right, Ethan crossed to Callum who unfortunately scooped a right foot effort from close range onto the bar.
Our first half pressure resulted in us having three corners during the half which were all very well delivered in to the danger area by Kai, sadly we were unable to convert any of these into goals; although Dan Hurst did get his head to one but he was stretching and his effort went over the bar.
All the boys were doing very well and it was difficult for us today to make personnel changes. Despite this we started the second half having made one half time change; with Dan Susans coming on for Ethan on the right of midfield.
Lichfield started the second half well, clearly determined to try and get back in to the game at the earliest opportunity but as many sides have found recently our defence is not that easy to break down lately and Lichfield struggled to find the way through to our goal. Adam was having a great game at left back and clearly enjoying his morning, Kurtis was competing well at right back whilst Elliot and Dan Hurst were as ever reliable, calm and organised in the centre. When Lichfield did on the odd occasion get through our defence they found Aidan alert to mop up the danger. Whilst mentioning Aidan, I thought his goal kicks - particularly out of his hands were excellent today.
Despite enjoying the majority of possession during the first half and playing some good football we were finding clear cut chances hard to come by early on in the second half and with only a one goal lead whilst pushing for that second goal we had to be conscious of being hit on the break.
Eventually we managed to create our first real chance of the half. Following good work down the left again by Callum the ball fell to James who found himself unmarked in the box with the goal at his mercy but unfortunately he put his effort wide of the right post.
Midway through the half we made our second change of the game, bringing Tom on for Joe. Tom played on the right of midfield and we pushed Dan Susans inside hoping to make us a little more competitive in the middle of the park leaving James up front on his own.
We continued to push for that second goal and finally made the breakthrough taking a two goal lead with a superb goal from Daniel Hurst. As the ball fell to him fully 25 yards from goal rather than take a touch Dan fired a first time thunderbolt of a shot into the top right corner of the net, giving the keeper absolutely no chance - goal of the season to date!
This relaxed the team, we were now again the dominant side and it wasn’t long before we added a third. Ben won the ball in midfield and passed it to Tom on the right who crossed for Callum who neatly slotted the ball home with his left foot; a deserved goal for his morning’s efforts to top off a fine display.
We then bought Ethan back on for the final stages of the game replacing James having worked hard up front.
We managed to see the game out and won 3 - 0 despite a late rally in the closing stages by Lichfield chasing a consolation goal.
Another good performance today by the team, with goals of high quality and yet another clean sheet; our 5th in the last seven games, in which we’ve now scored 24 goals conceding just 2, a great team effort; keep it up!
Man of the match today went to Adam Dyche who has patiently waited for his chance to play his first full game of the season and he grasped it with both hands (thankfully not literally). Adam has done well in training recently and we felt he fully deserved his chance and didn’t let anyone down. Well done Adam.
We continue with the shield next week at home to Wyrley Jags – same again please boys.
The challenge is now to stay at the top of the Shield league!
