Determined Rangers battle to victory

Colron Rangers 1 - Darwin Park 0

This was the first meeting between the 2 sides, a game that saw top take on bottom, & as so often happens in these games, the result was a close run thing.

Having enjoyed their first league victory of the season on Friday, Darwin Park showed from the off that they were fully committed & would not roll over easily, & much of the first half was more of a battle for possession than a free flowing game.

Colron enjoyed more of the play & created some decent half chances, whilst Harry, again deputizing in goal, dealt with the threats posed by Darwin Park, I heard him on one occasion with a loud call of “Keeper’s ball”, as he came out to claim a through ball, well done Harry, commanding the area.

Half time arrived with the game still goalless.

Buoyed by their efforts, Darwin started the second half with increased confidence that they could get a result to upset the form book, & the first 5 or 6 minutes saw them pushing on in search of the opening goal.

Colron have shown in game after game that they can play some wonderful football, today to their credit, they also showed great tenacity & strength of character, as they began to gain supremacy & push for the elusive goal themselves.

Then, with 10 minutes of the second half gone, the ball fell to Sam, just inside the right side of the opponents penalty area, & with typical power & accuracy, he struck the ball across the goalkeeper & into the top corner, for his 19th goal of the season.

Relief all around as Colron finally gained the lead, now they went in search of more, Oscar was unlucky to see his shot come back off the post, & Dan missed a good chance at the back post after some wonderful build up play involving Sam, Brandon & Ellis.

At the final whistle, the score was 1 nil to Colron, importantly, it was another 3 points to keep the boys on track.

This was certainly one of the toughest games the boys have been involved in during their first season together, & I was proud that they rolled their sleeves up in the second half & battled to gain the right to play their football, well done lads.

Man of the match today went to Brandon Lee who typified the determination shown by the team, performing well both in attack & when asked to play in midfield, well done Brandon.

Thanks to all who came out to support the boys again, sorry to have caused you all so much stress, but, thankfully we got the win we deserved.
