Congleton vs Oswestry match report

Congleton vs Oswestry

After last weekend disappointing start to the season the bears where hoping that a first home game of the season would be different and they didn’t disappoint.

On a wet day down at hankinson’s field the bears had there first home game of the season and it was off.
After an early penalty kicked to Oswestry it appeared that there day was over as the home side quickly replied with a penalty of there own and set up camp in the Oswestry half. With all the ball and territory in the first half it was combination of chances not taken and a good defensive effort from the away side that kept the bears to evens in the first half as the break came it was 3-3

After a few motivational word from the assistant coach Tom Beck and some magical oranges the bears came out the second half flying the open score came from the one and only Darren Ball after a penalty on the 22 the bears decided to tap and go and after strong work from the forwards pods the final unleashed Darren from 15 meters out as he proceeded to bonce off the defenders and score under the sticks (10-3). From then it was one way traffic with strong ball carrying from Greg Wood and Mark Wright (I think at one point Wright even did a few side steps) Phill Humphrey got the second after a great bit of pod work again in the build up and Humphrey sniping over at the ruck (17-3). Humphrey then pick up a knock but nothing could stop him sniping for his second moments later (22-3). The fans on the side line didn’t have to wait long for the fourth as after a great bit of build up play which started in the bears half driving Oswestry back Wood took on a strong line and with a beautiful outside tip to Ali Allen who strolled in from just inside the 22 (29-3). Next was the turn of Scott Thompson who after a dangerous break from Joe Kanaurous in midfield result in quick ball and easy finish for Thompson off a tip on (36-3). The final try from the bears was something special as it started with some great pod work from the tight five drawing the Oswestry defensive line tighter and tighter till Kanaurous decide to unleash the backs where it went through the hands and end up with Allen once again a little show go to the covering defence and he was away for his second (43-3).

It was a great afternoon for the bears who showed what the hard work in pre season has done.

Man of the match goes to Phil Humphries for his great work around the pitch and his brace of tries.

Next fixture vs Marple away 22nd September
