Congleton Town have secured a high profile friendly against Stoke City at Booth Street

Congleton Town have secured a high profile friendly against Stoke City at Booth Street on Tuesday 29th July kick off at 7.45. The Stoke team will be a mix of senior and development squad players which will provide a glimpse of the future whilst Congleton have been very busy during the close season building a squad that will hopefully be challenging for honours this season.

Team Manager Jim Vince commented “we have worked hard during the close season and have made some key signings” these include Lewis Killen, ex professional from Crawley Town, Scott Barlow, centre forward having played at Trafford and Chester, Nick Rogan, another centre forward formerly of Marine and Skelmesdale, winger PJ Hudson and ex Rochdale defender Calvin Crooks,

As an additional bonus former players from Stoke City including Gordon Banks, Willie Stevenson, Terry Conroy, Dennis Smith, Kevin Lewis, Brendan O’Callaghan and Jimmy Greenhoff will also be at the game and will be afforded a warm welcome by supporters and club officials.

To complete the entertainment junior teams from Congleton Rovers will compete in a small sided game during half time as well as providing ball boys for the game, those children under 12 not lucky enough to be playing or involved can come to the game free of charge as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

A good crowd is expected at Booth Street for what will be an excellent evenings entertainment which will be supported by the normal high quality refreshments and hospitality which is afforded to all of our guests on matchdays.

Hopefully the evening will launch the Bears towards a successful 2014/15 campaign which starts with a tough away fixture at Ashton Athletic on the 2nd August, KO 3.00 pm
