An enjoyable week for the academy with fitness tests, training and games vs pro clubs.

Last Monday our U13-U19 sides did their second batch of fitness tests for the new season with academy sports scientist Ed Harper.

Players were tested just over seven weeks prior at the end of the 2016/17 campaign and then given off season physical conditioning programs tailored for each age group.

Players were tested on four areas focusing on speed, power, agility and speed endurance.

Early signs show a high number of improvements across the board which was great to see.

Full test results will be handed out next week.

From a games program our U18 and U19 sides travelled away to face Rochdale last Wednesday to kick the week off with the games being played at Hyde.

The Tuesday prior our under 19s travelled away to Tranmere Rovers and were narrowly beaten by three goals to two in a very strong performance from the side.

Our U18s kicked off first on Wednesday against Rochdale and after trailing two nil at the break, the side responded well winning the game three two with goals from Oscar Hamilton and Coel Lambert (2). Jack Swinnerton was awarded m an of the match with a very strong performance from left back.

Our U19s followed for a 16:00 kick off and won their fixture four goals to one. Conor Harwood, Jack Foster and two for man of the match, fifteen year old Jacob Barratt with the goals.

Friday evening our minis section returned to training action with our under 8s shown and taken through the Nomads Moves program which is a vital part of the mini section of the academy.

Our minis were then in action early Saturday morning with our U8, U9 and U10 sides playing Deeside Dragons and Buckley Town Juniors a year up. All three were very competitive games and huge thanks to the three local sides for the fixtures.

Our U18 and U19 games followed for 11:00 and 13:00 kick offs vs Ashton Town reserves and first team. Two very strong senior side opposition for our Nomads youth sides and both were well beaten, but great learning opportunity for our young players against strong mens opposition.

Sunday morning saw another full day at The Quay 3G with our U14 and U15 sides in action vs Wirral Schools Boys. Both games were very competitive against top class opposition boasting a number of pro players within their ranks.

Both Nomads sides fell to defeats in great games. Huge thanks to Wirral Schools for the fixtures and we hope to host them again over the coming season.

The final game of the week saw our under 16s face Rochdale in a game of goals galore with our Nomads side winning by seven goals to five. This game was recorded and highlights of all the goals will be uploaded in the next few days.

An enjoyable first two weeks of pre season for all of our sides with games for all team to look forward to again this coming weekend.
