Full review from the last two weeks for the academy across mini, youth and senior phase.

Mini Phase – Weekend 22nd and 23rd September 2018 – Leighton Sumner Head of Phase

A very competitive weekend of fixtures saw our mini phase cone up against some tough Flint sides at all ages. Games were played at great tempo and in fantastic spirit.

First derby for the 8's, All boys were up for a battle against the local rivals flint, Nomads dominated the majority of the game and probably should of scored more than what we did, Jaeden Gordon, Dominating the midfield area switching play but MOM Lucas Roberts showing individual consistent quality throughout all the game giving us the edge against a physical flint side.

U9s Lads learned how to win ugly, although going 3-0 thanks to goals from Olly Blythin and Nathaniel Rakowiecki. We then found ourselves falling behind 4-3 which could have been much more if it wasn't for the standout performance at the back from Gabriel Blackie winning numerous headers, last ditch tackles to keep us in the game, turning it on when it mattered we equalised through a Olly tap in and found a last minute winner through Jayden Smyth. 5-4 Great derby game!

U10s as always a very tough fixture vs flint who always battle till the end but our quality on the ball and finishing were superb against flint on Saturday. we won 4-3 in an entertaining game. Man of the match went to Louie Gilbert who was superb at the back and got the winner with 5 mins to go with a superb volley.

U11s - Lads took every bit of information on board this week, controlled possession but were a little lack lustre in the final third, regained the ball back with immediate effect to cause Flint problems, Flint took the lead through a great strike, but our lads remained composed and continued to play the short 5-10 yards possession play which resulted in a 4-1 victory. Stand out players, Liam Ellis, Leon Hughes and Guy Mercer

U12s, played in their first Academy cup game of the season. Played some good football and created lots of very good scoring opportunities from brilliant build up play. Zak Talbot was outstanding in the centre of the park and Tom Hughes was a constant threat going forward.

Thanks to Flint for hosting our 8s to 11s sides and thanks to our visitors in the U12s age group.

Youth phase - Weekend 22nd and 23rd September – Iain Bennett Head of Phase

A weekend full of games against Wrexham and Flint for the youth phase.

The Under 13s travelled to play flint on Sunday at Holywell 3G, the boys started the game well and soon took a hold on the game, with some excellent performances the team eventually ran out impressive 11-0 winners.

The Under 14s played Friday night against Wrexham 14s at the 3G, the boys displayed a very competitive and against our local opposition, the players have adapted well to new coaching ideas and techniques in recent weeks and were unlucky to lose 2-0 in the night.

On Sunday they played at home against Flint in the Academy Cup, it was an eventful and very competitive game between the two sides, the game was even for large spells with the nomads boys eventually winning the game 3-1 to keep up their 100% record.

The Under 15s travelled to Flint on Sunday, the boys continued there excellent start to the season with a great performance winning the game 6-0, players are really progressing within the group and we look forward to seeing how they get in in coming weeks against Cefn Druids and Shrewsbury.

The Under 16s played Wrexham in Friday night at the 3G and performed very well, against possibly Wrexham's best group the lads competed well and lost the game 2-0, very pleasing to see the boys compete so well and cause the wrexham team lost of problems.

On Sunday they hosted Flint in the Academy Cup at the 3G in what would prove to be a good test. The boys played very well and ran out 2-0 winners on the day. This result could prove decisive if the group get a point or more next week against Cefn Druids.

Well done to all players, coaches and parents on a great week.

Senior phase - Weekend 22nd and 23rd September – Iain Bennett Head of Phase

The week was a good one on the whole for the phase, it saw us travel to play Accrington and Rossendale for our Scholars category 1 side. The boys produced a excellent performance to win 5-0 in a game they totally dominated and controlled for the full 90 minutes. The result could have been more impressive if th lads had converted some of the chances they missed, either way a great start to the week.

The Saturday squad travelled to local rivals Airbus in a cup game, a great display from Matt and Kevs team saw the boys win 4-1 in a relatively comfortable affair. The boys played some excellent football and deservedly ran out winners against our Flintshire rivals.

Sunday saw us travel to Bangor, a notoriously tough place to go and get a result in recent years, the boys started slowly and found themselves 2-1 down at half time. The second half was much improved and asked Bangor a lot more questions to be 3-3 in added time the lads had responded well having been 3-1 down early on in the second half. They were denied a winner and from the resulting breakaway bangor took their chance and won the game 4-3, we weren't at our best in the game but in spells really caused bangor problems, we will need to train well and go again next week to right the wrongs from this performance.

Mini Phase – Weekend 29th and 30th September – Leighton Sumner Head of Phase

A great weekend of fixtures took place last weekend as we faced a very strong group of teams from Bangor from 8-11s and another competitive fixture in the Academy cup v Cefn Druids at U12s.

U8's

A hard fought win for the lads coming up against a Strong Bangor side, we were not at our best, but the lads continued to battle throughout, Junior Kelly defensively stood out clearing up all trouble for the 8's when Bangor attacked, Tough, But good morning of football.

U9s

The game started fairly even with neither side able to find a goal, a combination of mistakes defensively lead to us going a goal behind, Owen Conway replied with a smart finish. Failure pick up from a corner lead to us going behind again before the boys really turned it on with Olly Blythin scoring from the spot then grabbing his 2nd of the game not long after, while Owen Hughes finished well with a very composed effort which rounded off a decent performance from the boys 4-2 nomads

U10s

Missing 5 players due county and illness, Wasn't the best performance from the u10s this weekend against a very strong Bangor city side, didn't keep the ball as well as we could do and we leaked a couple of soft goals but the boys scored 4 really decent goals from great build up play and grinded a result out in the end.

U11s

Lads knocked it about really well and heavily dominated the possession, struggled in the final third and couldn't get a shot away quick enough! Due to conceding first it left us open as we continued to push for a goal but again defensively we weren't great.
Something to focus on for us in the next coming weeks.

U12s

The boys continued their good form in the academy cup against a decent Druids side, playing some breathtaking football in the first half and creating some lovely opportunities. After leading 3-0, we conceded twice and had to dig deep to open up the gap and get the victory, some top performances notably from Tom Hughes, Jayden Evans, Zak Talbot.
Thanks very much to our visitors Bangor and Cefn Druids.

Youth Phase – Weekend 29th and 30th September

U13s beat Cefn Druids 4-3 in a very end to end game of football. We looked very dangerous in attack with Aled & Aiden both scoring twice but Druids ball in behind caused us problems. With the game 3-3 at the half, the lads controlled large periods of the second half and took the lead early, sadly we weren't clinical enough to kill the game off! Druids fought back in the last 10mins but defensively the boys dug deep and seen the game out! Good performance from the lads in an entertaining game of football from both teams

U14's- The U14's never really got going in their first academy cup defeat of the season to Cefn Druids. The lads weren't tight enough in midfield and conceded 2 poor goals, whilst struggling to create goal scoring opportunities when in Druids final third.
Luca Hogan Man of the match for giving Nomads a very good focal point when playing upfront by himself, he held the ball up very well and was involved in all of Nomads good play.
Things to work on... 2-1 defeat, Luke Crabtree with Nomads goal.

U15 won 6-0 goals from Ollie 3 Alex 2 Jake 1 ...the boys played some good football generally rarely getting out of second gear , the first half the lads squandered at least half a dozen straightforward chances , only leading 1-0 at half time , second half was much better moving the a lot quicker and scoring 5 goals , strong performances from both fullbacks but Owen Czerniak just pipped them to mom with a commanding performance in the middle of the park

16s came from behind twice to earn a draw against a very good Cefn Druids side. Ben O’Neill got our first from close range after josh Stanley's low shot was well saved and Harry Challinor headed home the second from a great free kick from Adam Gunnery
