On Monday 23rd October 2017 our U13-U19 academy sides will be enjoying a motivational speech from Andy Grant.

Andy has been through more than most have in their lifetime. From losing his mother aged 12, to joining the Royal Marines, to serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, to being injured by an IED, becoming medically discharged and consequently facing life as an amputee.

Although what Andy has been through is unique, the problems and adversities we all face in our daily lives are very similar. Our Nomads Academy sides will share his story about how he went on to become the world’s fastest single leg amputee in the world over 10km by clocking a time of 37:17, and climbed some of the world’s highest mountains. All since making the decision himself, to have his leg amputated. He will explain that life will put you in all kinds of challenging situations, but it need not determine you as a person – it’s how you react to these challenges.

A thank you to club owner Gary Dewhurst for arranging this for the academy along with Alex Thomas and Tim Williams at Coleg Cambria who have arranged for this to take place at the new Coleg Cambria A Level lecture hall next to the Quay 3G.

The evening will run from 18:00 till 20:00 and all Academy Scholars U18 and U19, along with all U13-U16 sides will be in attendance instead of training.

All players are asked to arrive in Nomads Academy red jumper and black training pants.

Liverpool Football Club were the first Premier League team to see the benefit of having Andy come in to speak to their younger squads. Andy uses analogies to compare his personal and professional Royal Marine life to that of the sporting world and aims to inspire people to realise that, as in life, sporting knockbacks are inevitable. It is how you react and respond to them, that is so vitally important and Andy emphasises the need and importance of resilience and stamina, both physical and mental.

An enjoyable evening to look forward to for all of our academy players in our youth phase.

More details will be given out closer to the date.
