This past Saturday saw Wales National Team Manager, Chris Coleman, officially open The Quay 3G.

The launch was attended by more than 250 of The Nomads’ Academy players and parents, along with The Nomads First Team Manager, Andy Morrison, Assistant Manager Jay Catton and various other club coaches and delegates.

The official opening brought to an end the 18 month process to install the FIFA 1* Synthetic 3G pitch at Connah’s Quay High School. The half a million pound facility has been funded via £350,000 from the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and the UEFA Hat Trick Programme alongside a £150,000 investment from local recruitment agency, gap personnel.

Coleman, capped 32 times for Wales, and National Team Manager since 2012 opened the facility alongside key members of the project, including Jay Catton, John and Roma Gray.

The Nomads’ Academy Director and First Team Assistant Manager, Jay Catton said “Saturday was an amazing day for everyone involved at the Club. This new facility was a two year journey which saw The Nomads, gap personnel, Flintshire County Council and Connah’s Quay High School all working in partnership.

To have Chris Coleman open the facility was fantastic and a huge crowd was great to see. A testament to the FAW and Chris – he took photos and signed autographs for everyone which was outstanding.”

Catton concluded “The facility provides and exciting future for all at the Club, the Academy and the local community in Deeside.”
