The U14’s began their pre-season with a tough game at home to FC Spartans. It was the Spartans who started off the game passing the ball around confidently. The Nomads came back into the game after ten minutes, regaining their composure on the ball.
New signing Owen Marshall
looked solid at the back, showing great strength on the ball and formed a great partnership with Joel. Another new signing, Andrew Ely
passed the ball well in midfield, always made himself available for a pass and showed quality with his through balls.
Nomads began to take control of the game and with five minutes to half time were awarded a free kick. Iwan hit a well struck shot which the keeper got a hand to but couldn’t keep it out to take a well deserved lead.
In the second half Nomads continued to pass the ball well, with both wide players, Andy and Danny making good runs down the wing. After six minutes of the second half a ball was played from the right into the Spartans box. Danny stretched to reach the ball with his head just beating the keeper to the ball to make it 2-0.
Kris made a brave save when a Spartan player burst into the box and fired the ball from close range. His handling and distribution was excellent.
In the last ten minutes Nomads began to tire and Spartans began to look dangerous from crosses. With five minutes remaining Nomads were awarded a free kick on the left. Andrew Ely
stepped up and curled a great free kick into the corner. The keeper did well to get his fingers to it but was unable to keep it out.
Two minutes later Spartans pulled a goal back finishing strongly with a headed goal. The final score was 3-1 to Nomads. This was a good start to pre-season for the U14’s.
Man of the match today was Own Marshall who was solid at the centre of defence. He showed great strength on the ball, headed the ball well and also had the composure to play the ball out of defence.
