Having had a few weeks off over the Christmas period we found ourselves having to play two games in two days. We had a very difficult game away from home in the reserve league against Rhyl and now we faced a tough away game at Flint.
We started very slow in this fixture allowing Flint to take control for the first ten minutes due to our very sloppy passing. Every time we won the ball back, within two passes we had given the ball straight back to Flint. Nowhere near good enough and not what we expected. We had our defence to thank on a few occasions as the Flint strikers looked very lively but they never caused us major problems.
Our first chance fell to Shaun Tinsley after 15 minutes but Shaun shot narrowly wide.
We were relying on George Baxter to be on form down the left wing, but even George struggled to get into the game and swapping our wingers didn’t make much difference during the first half. Even Rhys Healey and Aled Reece couldn’t make an impact when we did actually get the ball in to our strikers.
Despite our very poor performance we were limiting Flint to very few clear chances but on 20 minutes a chipped ball into the Flint striker was controlled by his arm and beyond our defenders inside our box and was side footed home to put Flint a goal ahead despite our claims for hand ball that was clear to everyone but the referee. Flint 1 - 0 Nomads
Minutes later we started our own bit of pressure and Rhys Healey gained us a free kick 30 yrds out. The ball was floated into the Flint area and Ryan Jones rose the highest and beat the keeper to the ball but his glancing header was inches over the bar..
We looked like we would go into the break only one goal down which would have been fair and would give ourselves a chance to get back into the game second half, but we conceded a corner a minute before the break and the corner was delivered with curl and pace which keeper Jack Jones mis judged under pressure and the ball went straight into the top corner from the corner kick. Flint 2 - 0 Nomads
A cruel blow but we had played dreadful during the first half and only had ourselves to blame.
We upped our game and started to put Flint on the back foot in the second half with George Baxter starting to look dangerous. After ten minutes we changed our formation to 4-3-3 to make our early pressure count and on the hour mark we finally got our goal after a quick break found Jack Higgott now playing in midfield racing in behind the Flint defence and his square ball across the Flint box found Rhys Healey unmarked arriving at the back post to side foot into the net. Flint 2 - 1 Nomads
We looked like we could get something out of this game as we pinned Flint back in their own half for most of the second half but on 75 minutes we got caught with out after our own attack broke down and Flint broke quick to punish us further by grabbing another goal that was not deserved and hard to take after we had Flint under pressure. Flint 3 - 1 Nomads
Things went from bad to worse for us moments later when we were trying to get a sub ready to replace Jamie Wynne who had indicated he needed to be replaced. Jamie tried to win the ball and gave a free kick away and to every ones amazement the referee issued Jamie with his second yellow card putting us down to ten men. We had nothing to lose and we went 3-3-3 and for the last ten minutes we had Flint pressed back into their own box as we tried to get back into the game, but shots were saved, blocked and cleared by a desperate defence. Corner after corner was swung in but Jack Smallwood in the Flint goal came and punched away any danger. We just couldn’t find a way back into the game and the result finished Flint 3 - 1 Nomads
