Down to the bare bones with lots of players out with injuries we knew this game was going to be tough. Playing Llandudno Junction away is always a hard fixture and on a wet and windy afternoon with a very young squad it couldn't get any harder.
We won the toss and allowed Junction to have the wind advantage during the first half and our aim was to keep a clean sheet. We started well against the wind attacking early on and winning a free kick 30 yards out. Jordan Beck delivered a great ball in and Ste Belli had a free
header but headed just wide.
Junction are a big and very physical team but our young players coped well with what Junction threw at us. Their long ball tactics was a great test for Ryan Jones and Wyn Pierce but they dealt with every ball. We played a high defensive line and this was to our advantage with the wind as the long balls played over our defence carried through to Jack Jones in goal. We tried to play our football as usual and got our reward on 30 minutes. We had a corner on the left which was headed away by Junction, we played the ball back in to the edge of the box and Ryan Jones flicked the ball on to Josh Williams who volleyed a curling shot with the outside of his right boot into the far left corner of the net. A great finish at any standard of football but this was one of our 16 year olds playing in the reserves and getting his very first senior goal for Nomads. Junction 0 - 1 Nomads
We were limiting Junction to very few chances but with their height they were dangerous from corners we conceeded. Again our young lads dealt with the danger and with Jack Jones in goal commanding things we looked solid.
Jack Cheetham looked comfortable at right back again another 16 year old in the team for the game, he grew in confidence as the game went on. George Baxter was a constant threat running at the defenders all game and being constantly fouled George simply got on with the game. Aled Reece was leading the line well and Ste Belli looked busy picking up the pieces in front of the midfield. Sean Williams and Shaun Tinsley tried to keep things ticking in midfield but even with the wind and a poor pitch playing a big part they still done well.
Just before half time Ryan Jones shot wide after a Jordan Beck free kick found Ryan in the box with his back to goal and Ryan turned quick but his effort was off target.
Half Time Junction 0 - 1 Nomads
We had the wind advantage for the second half and we used it well with Jordan Beck playing quality balls into the left channel for George Baxter to get in behind the defence. On 52 minutes Jordan Beck played in George Baxter and george squared the ball for Aled Reece who made no mistake from 8 yards out. Junction 0 - 2 Nomads
It was another great ball by Jordan to George for George to run at the defence only for the Junction defender to bring George down in the box for a penalty. Aled Reece stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to put us three up on the hour.
Junction 0 - 3 Nomads
We should have had another penalty minutes later when again George Baxter caused problems running at the defence, he took the ball past two players in the box and as George went past the third defender he was bundled over but the referee waved away our claims. Junction did cause us problems and after a bit of pressure they got a goal back when a long ball over should have been offside but play went on and despite the effort from Jack Jones in goal to save it the ball found the corner. Junction 1 - 3 Nomads
We soaked up pressure that Junction put us under for next 5 minutes and we started to control the game again for the rest of the second half to see out the win.
This was a tough test and we showed our determination during the first half to close down quick and not allow Junction any time on the ball and we continued that attitude throughout the second half which is why we had such a great result.
Final score
Llandudno Junction reserves 1 - 3 Nomads reserves
