Captain Waddilove's Winner Gives Nomads 3 More Points On The Road
Another 3-2 victory on the road for the young Nomads sends them into 2nd place in the league
On the back of a great 3-2 victory vs Caerwys last week the U18's were raring to go against a tough opposition in Mold Town United.
Mold are veteran opposition who are always good at home so the Nomads knew it would be a hard battle, this proved true within 5 minutes of the kick off with some very hard tackles being thrown in.
Nomads were on top for the first 30 minutes, with wave after wave of attack. The first goal came through Sam Roberts, after some excellent play down the left through Leon Doran and Dominic Elsey-McHugh saw Roberts released in the box to stroke the ball into the bottom corner.
From the onslaught all the way through the first half where the Reds were in control almost the entire half, albeit a shot or two from Mold you'd be excused for thinking that the game would be seen out comfortably, but this was not the case.
The second half started in a scrappy fashion, Mold took advantage of the referees reluctance to put players in the book for poor challenges with many repeat offences by players going unchecked (except for free kicks given against), this broke the flow of Nomads up and Mold took advantage. Their pacey striker was always going to be a threat with his raw speed and any direct ball over the top could result in a chance, it did on the 54th minute and he smartly smashed the ball in to make it 1-1.
Mold tails were up and it was end to end for the next 5 minutes, but it would be Nomads who regained the lead on the hour mark when Sam Haddon picked up a loose ball in the box to dive it in from 12 yards.
At 2-1 Mold still fought and the game was just attack after attack for both teams. A Mold free kick floated into the box on the 69th minute was flicked past Jack Wynne in goal who couldn't do much about it, very unlucky for him as he had kept Mold at bay since their first goal.
At 2-2 the game was fast and furious and very edgy. Nomads created the better attacks but Mold defended stoutly, just when the game was looking to finish 2-2 Nomads grabbed the winner.
A corner whipped into the box wasn't dealt with by the Home side and Leon Doran put the ball to the back post to captain Ben Waddilove, who controlled the ball and smashed it into the roof of the net to collect all 3 points for his team.
Reflecting on the game a Nomads victory was deserved for the first half dominance alone however Mold battled excellently and the game would have been very good for the neutral in the second 45 minutes.
Sam Roberts x1 (Dominic Elsey-McHugh Assist)
Sam Haddon x1 (Leon Doran Assist)
Ben Waddilove x1 (Leon Doran Assist)
Player of the Match - Leon Doran
This accolade goes to Leon Doran again, the second week on the bounce. From the left the entire first half seemed to just go through him, Mold on various occasions had to put 2 and 3 players on him once he started running at them and he was literally dragged down to stop him a few times. 2 assists thrown in for this performance from left back a great statistic and defensively he was solid.
Special mentions go to Sam Roberts and Owen Manley who held the midfield fantastically and allowed Doran and Karter Cutler-Evans to join the attack all game.
