This morning Llandudno town under 8s come to the 3G to play a friendly game. Llandudno are a very good under 8s academy side that play the right way and have a great coach in paul (robbo) Roberts who is coaching the boys the right way to play football and is always a pleasure to play Llandudno as they are a good test for our boys. The last time we played dudno we lost 6-4 at home 5 weeks ago, so we were looking for a better performance against them and the boys certainly did put in a superb performance against them this morning.
Game kicked off and started scrappy from both teams. Both teams were cancelling eachothers passes out and the first 7-10 mins there was barely a shot on goal due to both defences being on top, after 10 mins our boys turned up the pressure and started creating some great chances, 12th minute came and some great work down the left hand side by smith and young found Alfie Griffiths in the box who smashed a shot at goal who the keeper got a hand too but it hit the back station inside of the goal come back out to lennon young who made sure the ball went into the net but the goal had already been given for the Griffiths shot. young and Williams were causing chaos down the wings and in the 16th minute young cut in from the left and curled a shot into the top corner to score a brilliant goal. we've seen lennon do this a few times this season and clearly been getting rewards for his efforts. Dudno created a few chances in the first half but never really troubled our keeper jake barlow.
2nd period was far closer as dudno pressed us and got there players higher up the pitch and were causing problems for us, they could have pegged the scoreline back if it wasn't for Alex Baguley who made some fantastic saves and was in top form. Alfie Edwards was putting in a great shift with his work rae and passing, also dan mcglaughlin who worked really hard upfront with some great movement and was unlucky not to score, marcelino sdrak had a decent game at left back getting the ball forward quickly and supporting others. Felt dudno were unlucky not to score in this period but the November player of the month louie Gilbert was on top form at the back who played really well. Louie is having a great spell in football at the moment and looks to be getting stronger and his reading of the game gets better each week. still 2-0 with 3 minutes of the half to go and some great pressure and battling from jayden hughes found himself clean through on goal and made no mistake with his shot to slide the ball home from close range to make it 3-0.
3rd period we looked to get the ball forward quicker and get width and we did counter attack really well and after a great run from taylor Williams struck a cross shot at goal an took a deflection off there defender only to see lennon young to be in he right place at the right time to tap home from a yard out to make it 4. again the boys were playing some great football, Gethin Roberts had a steady game, solid in tackles as always. Llandudno again got some great strikes in but again our goalkeeper jake barlow was in fine form with some great saves, our keepers have really shown there class the last month and can see the benefits of goalkeeper training twice a week from neil and emma, so a big credit to them !!. miday through the 3rd half dudno looked tired and were losing concentration. we took advantage of this and scored another4 goals in quick succession, another stunning goal from young and a quick fire hatrick from man of the match taylor Williams. Llandudno did get there consolation goal after there defender launched the ball over our defence only to see shay ( llandudo #10) rounded our goalkeeper baguley who cooly slid the ball home from 8 yards out to make it 8-1 and the final score.
overall today both coaches can take positives from this game. the score in my eyes could have been more closer only for our goalkeepers to be in such good form and some deadly finishing from our front men were the difference. it was Llandudno's first game in 3 weeks and they clearly tired in the 3rd period and we certainly took advantage of this. I have a lot of time for paul and Llandudno and we look forward to playing them again after the new year.
