Goals from Ross Rule and Joe Chaplin earnt Conwy Borough an impressive 2-1 win at Flint Town on Wednesday Night.

Conwy Borough extended the winning run to three successive games for the first time in the league this season to hit the 30 point mark.

Flint turned Conwy over in the League Cup fixture at Y Morfa a few weeks ago but it was the Tangerines turn to exact revenge by the same scoreline and claim a league double over former manager Aden Shannon's side.

It was an impressive first half showing by Conwy, playing in blue, and they took the lead after 14 minutes, when Derek Taylor combined with Ross Rule who went through and rounded Flint keeper Ross Dalton to place the ball into an empty net for his third goal in three starts.

The Flint defence were taken apart again on 19 minutes by a nice 1-2 between Joe Chaplin and Lee Davey, which resulted in Dalton making a fine save to deny Lee Davey, who is having little luck in front of goal at present.

The home sides first effort on goal came on 30 minutes, when Jack Abraham hit a long range effort over the bar as they rarely threatened.

The Tangerines doubled their lead on 38 minutes as Rule again sliced through the defence down the left hand side and was brought down inside the box. Up stepped Joe Chaplin to convert the spot kick and claim his seventh goal of the season in a Conwy shirt to put the Tangerines 2-0 up at half time.

The home side came out for the second half with more purpose as the Tangerines had to re-organise following the withdrawal at half time of Joe Chaplin through injury.

Ten minutes in and Conwy Borough manager, Jason Aldcroft, never short of passion on the touchline, was sent to the stands for remonstrating with the officials.

A few minutes later and Flint pulled a goal back as former Tangerine Abe Dobson's cross was turned into his own net by Conwy defender Chris Rowntree as the ball spun up off his shin.

However, in spite of the home side enjoying more possession the better chances fell to Conwy who could have extended their lead on 67 minutes, when Derek Taylor hit a 20 yard shot that Dalton parried but collected just in time.

The impressive Taylor then went on a surging solo run from the halfway line into the opposition penalty area, before seeing his shot go agonisingly just past the post.

Dalton was forced to make another fine save in the 85th minute, when Lee Davey unleashed a vicious shot from the edge of the box, that was tipped over the bar.

Flint were restricted to half chances and an onslaught never materialised as the Tangerines claimed another three precious points in another impressive team display.

Although not mathematically yet certain, safety is certainly now looking highly probable and if the winning run continues the Tangerines could be looking to finish even higher with games in hand on Buckley in 11th place.

Llanfair United in 14th spot look the biggest threat but they face four of their last six games with double headers against strong opposition in both Caernarfon and Holywell. Caersws, who sit one place below, would need to win all of their remaining 3 games as would Mold with four games left, to stand a chance of overtaking the Tangerines.
