Umpire Hospitality

Corby Hockey again leading the way in Umpire Hospitality stakes.

Hospitality - the Umpires' view last season
Entering a chart as I did last year proved somewhat complicated and was difficult to read, so this year I am simplifying the results.

The scoring system for some reason extends from 3 (Lowest possible) to 7 (Highest possible)

The highest score was achieved by Stratforfd at 6.29. Other clubs getting a score of 6.00 or better - which I would deem to be excellent were:
Streetly
Finchfield
Ashby
Mansfield
W. Bridgford
Corby

We can be very proud of this, particularly as we see how poorly umpires are looked after at other clubs. Our score for attitude on the pitch was in the 5.00 - 5.49 range and categorised as reasonably good. We have made an excellent start this season so should be able to move up this table while keeping our top 6 in the hospitality stakes.

Bet the two comedians last week didn't score us that highly. I know I wouldn't have given them a high rating...

Dan, One Umpire stayed until nearly 8pm!! Darren Brookes doing the usual chit chat this time off the pitch though.

We are marked twice - once for attitude on teh pitch and secondly for hospitality off it. They are judged completely separately. Our general pleasantness has made us one of the more popular umpiring appointments. we do get to comment on umpires performance by filling in an online sheet where we can add constructive comments - we are unusual as a club that we will engage the umpires after the game and say what we thought of their performance.

Oh yeah, we can brown-nose like no one else - that's the 1,500 years of experience coming to the fore.

Did they apologise for not sending off one of the Mansfield players and apologise in general for their abject display of umpiring?

We rate them, they rate us. If we never have a dialogue with them they won't send people of for what we consider yellow card offences but they generally are reluctant to give. We can but try and help them - obviously in the game we try to get everything we can but once its over ....
