Good effort

Corby 0-2 Boots

Unlike the first fixture when Boots walked over Corby this was a different matter. Boots arrived knowing they needed to win to stand any chance of promotion and needed results to go for them. Corby made them sweat it out. Goalless at the half Corby had created probably the better openings. Boots knew Corby are very hard to break down and it took an uncharateristic mistake in the D by Mark Hawkins to gift the visitors a short corner. Hawkins then compounded his mistake by diverting the ball into the net. Corby again had chances and thought they were denied a clear penalty stroke. Boots doubled their lead with another short corner thy was more controversially awarded. As it happened Boots result was enough to secure second place but their fate is in the hands of National League teams surviving the relegation play offs. All in all an average looking season for Corby but they boast the second best defence in the league and one of the worst strike rates in the Midlands! 26 goals reaping 23 points make Corby the Midland Champions of points per goal. No other team come close. Most other teams scoring so few were relegated, teams conceding so few were usually promoted. Guess what area we need to work on for next season? Thanks to all our readers and we look forward to seeing you next season.
