The form book told no lies this weekend when underdogs Corby went to promotion hopefuls Oundle. The game started well with Corby making some promising moves, but it was short lived as Oundle broke through to start the scoring with a converted Try. The Oundle 15 were good in all departments and as hard as Corby tried they could not stop Oundle consistently adding to the score sheet. Oundle racked up 36 points for halftime. However, 4 mins from the end of the half Corby were rewarded with an opportunist Try by Andy Findley (jnr) and Steven Campbell took the extras
Half Time- Oundle 36 v 07 Corby 1st XV
Changes were made at half time and right at the start of the half the Corby No 8 was sin binned for stamping. This did not help the cause and Oundle were back off the mark with a converted Try. The half remained similar to the first half with Oundle on the attack and although the away side did ship points it could have been a whole lot more if it wasn’t for the fighting spirit and never say die attitude from the Corby side. The half ended with Oundle scoring a further 35 points
FINAL SCORE Oundle 71 v 07 Corby 1st XV
The score line today was no surprise and Oundle were worthy winners. However, I thought my lads battled all the way to end and that has to be commended. Last year, when we were in the Merit Table individuals in the team could win us games. This year that isn’t enough we need to function and play as a team and that if nothing else thhis is the big lesson we are learning.
