The Christmas break did Corsham no good as they struggled to find their pre-Christmas form and went down to a heavy defeat at the hands of Croft, 52-33. A squad denuded by injury and illness held their own, ending the first quarter trailing by one goal.
That was about as good as it got… With the starting seven all being skilled at their given positions it’s quite difficult to explain where it went so badly wrong.

Maybe, picture a seven-piece orchestra with trained musicians confidently clutching their chosen instruments… The conductor taps his stand and raises his baton… Within the first few bars it becomes apparent that everyone is looking at a different sheet of music, so what should have been a rendition of Beethoven’s 5th sounded like feeding time at the Cats and Dogs home… Nobody played badly…, it was just…, discordant.

Combinations are the cornerstone of any netball team and there seemed to be a decided dearth of successful combinations on Saturday. Croft raised their game and Corsham were unable to follow, as they fell further behind panic ensued and decision making suffered. On the plus side, no one caved entirely and everyone played hard until the final whistle.
My thinking was to challenge Corsham to remain unbeaten throughout the entirety of 2019… Well, with that out of the way my challenge is to just enjoy the remaining seven games and try to gain some consistency as we still don’t know what you’re going to get any given Saturday, will it be the performance that humbled Lawn or the one that saw a one-goal win over winless Purton…?

Correspondents’ player; Lynds- Still got it. Should be in the squad every week.
Croft player; Becky Davison-Smith; no argument here, subbing in at centre for Lou-lou. That’s some big size 4’s to fill…!
