Tom Williams bags a hat-trick in 4-1 win over Cerrigydrudion

Corwen XI 4 – 1 Cerrigydrudion 30/08/2014

A Corwen squad side took on Cerrigydrudion in the first pre-season game at the War Memorial Park of the 2014/15 campaign. Kick off was delayed slightly, as Corwen didn’t have a goalkeeper available, until Reserve Team manager Rich Crimp volunteered to don the gloves, and the game was halted until Rich was ready.

The start of the game was fairly even, with Corwen crating more chances, but both defences were equal to everything thrown at them in early stages.

The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute, when an attempted clearance by the Corwen defence only went as far as a Cerrigydrudion midfielder, who played the ball back in for his centre forward to fire home.

The game was level in the 44th minute when some good build up played allowed Tom Williams to find the back of the net with a clever finish. It was 2-1 in the first minute of stoppage time, as Corwen hit their visitors on the break, and another good finish from Tom gave Corwen the lead.

Corwen dominated the second half, creating a number of chances, with Tom Williams and James Evans both coming close to increasing Corwen’s lead. Corwen’s 3rd goal came in the 80th minute, as a good ball forward from Jason Williams found Tom Williams, who ran at the goalkeeper, and he made no mistake as he fired home to become a hat-trick hero.

There was still time for Corwen to add a fourth goal, and Jason was able to claim another assist, as he played another good ball forward to cut out the Cerrigydrudion defence, this time he was able to find Dewi Edwards, who kept his cool to fire past the oncoming goalkeeper to make the score 4-1 to Corwen.
