Danny Jellicoe names Leon Gierke as First Team Assistant Manager with more exciting news to come.

As a youth team player for Denbigh Town in the Rhyl and District football league, Leon proclaimed a name for himself as a free scoring striker. He still holds the record of the most goals scored in one season (125), a record taken from former Denbigh Town FC player Thomas Mutton. This record still holds around the coast of North Wales, despite Michael Owen's claim during the same time (112 goals the same season).

After brief spells at Burnley FC, Nottingham Forest and Crewe Alexandra, Leon played for TNS, Rhyl, and Caernarfon Town, winning the Welsh Premier League, Welsh Alliance League and the Welsh Cup. Leon also represented Wales at school boy level for two seasons, finishing top scorer each year and captaining the side in his second year.

Leon moved away from the area to pursue a career teaching. He has had spells at Fleetwood, Morecambe, Fylde, Lancaster and most recently Captaining Kendal Town FC in the Uni Bond Premier league.

Leon has returned back to his roots and has recently moved to the Sportsmans Arms inn on the Denbigh Moors (the highest pub in Wales, which serves lovely food and a cracking pint!). He has kept himself semi-fit, playing for Nantglyn FC in the summer league and his performances have caught the eye of those teams looking for an experienced overweight holding midfielder who is now too slow to play up front! He still takes a cracking set piece though.
