First Team 2– 1 Coedpoeth United - W.N.L Premier Division 08/04/2014

Corwen hosted Coedpoeth United on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, and any spectators present would be advised not to leave early if this game was anything like the match at Coedpoeth earlier in the season, as Corwen lead 3-2 going in to stoppage time, only to lose 4-3 thanks to two Kevin Breeze goals, the second being a penalty in the dying seconds.

The hosts started off brightly, forcing United keeper James Gardner into action as early as the 4th minute, as he tipped the ball over the crossbar from a Scott Evans free kick. This was closely followed by Tom Williams having a shot cleared off the goal line by Craig Evans, and Scott having another shot parried by Gardner.

With 32 minutes on the clock James Davies bust a gut to stop the ball going out for a throw in, before taking on Adam Williams and leaving him for dead, enabling him to cross to Scott on the edge of the box, who hit an unstoppable shot in to the top corner of the net.
James was at it again he played a great ball into the penalty area just before half time, where he found Ioz Jones, who could make no mistake as found the back of the net from close range.

The first chance of the second half fell to Wil Roberts, who took a couple of touches in the penalty area before hitting a low shot, which Gardner was able to save.

At the other end Jac Griffiths played a corner into the Corwen penalty area, where he was able to find the head of Nathan Roberts, who sent the ball over the bar.

Andrew Roberts came close to making it 3-0 when he ran at the United defence, and he chose his moment in the penalty area, and had Gardner beaten, only to see it stopped on the line by Andy Griffiths. The goal line stop spark protests from the Corwen players, who thought Griffiths had handled the ball on the line, but the referee waved play on.

Not long after this James looked as if he was going to get a goal his performance deserved, but he saw his on target shot deflected on to the post.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Andy Griffiths reacted aggressively as a result of a Wil Roberts challenge on him. The dismissal seemed to spark Coedpoeth into life, as they were the better side in the last 20 minutes, starting with a Tom Redman shot, which hit the side netting
.
Matty Thomas had the opportunity to reduce the deficit from a free kick, but he sent his effort straight into the wall. United were able to pull a goal back in the 74th minute, as Nathan Roberts sent a high ball to side of the box, where John Griffiths unleashed a brilliant header into the roof of the net.

Despite having most of the play, the visitors nearly allowed Corwen to pout the result beyond doubt, as James Davies had a shot well saved.

The visitors worked hard in their attempts to find an equaliser, and came closest to doing so when Redman hit the post, which meant that Corwen were able to claim all 3 points.
