Reserve Team 0– 0 Rhos Aelwyd Reserves- W.N.L Reserves Division 16/04/2014

Corwen Reserves faced Rhos Aelwyd on a sunny Wednesday evening, and they were hoping to claim all 3 points to boost their bid for a top 3 finish. With manager Rich Crimp unavailable due to work commitments, former First Team player and manager Alan Hughes took charge of the side.

The visitors had the best of the early stages, with Jamie Bodden tipping over a Darren Greenway shot in the 13th minute. This was closely followed by Eryl Roberts scuffing a shot over from close range.

Rhos keeper Jason Wynn showed that he was in no mood to be beaten, as Oli Crimp forced a good fingertip save out of him in the 20th minute.

Another good save was made by Jamie, as Drew Wickens headed the ball at goal from a Jamie Richards corner, but the Corwen stopper was a match for the powerful effort.

The closing stages of the half saw a Tom Williams shot rebound into the path of Will Hughes, who was in space, but he still took his shot quickly, and sent it wide of the target.

Nick Jones was the first to come close to finding the back of the net in the second half, as he stooped to get his head onto the end of a good cross, but his effort went wide of the target.

Tom Williams has a couple of opportunities to break the deadlock, the first of which saw his shot parried clear and out for a corner by Wynn, with Sam Evans in hot pursuit. A few minutes later Tom sent a low shot at goal, but Wynn was able to pull off another good save.

Sam Evans tried his luck with a looping shot at goal, but Wynn was equal to it, as he collected the ball. At the other end Phil Hignet tried to find the back of the net by shooting over his head with his back to goal, but Jamie was able to pull off another save.

Corwen had a couple of opportunities late on to claim all 3 points, as Tom played in Oli, whose shot went wide from close range. With 5 minutes to play Sam found Will Hughes in the danger area, who could only send his shot straight at the keeper

There were a few nervy moments as the game entered stoppage time, as the visitors were claiming a penalty against Rich Bodden; however the referee wasn’t interested, and waved play on.

The final whistle confirmed that the shares were going to be shared, which was a fair result from a very even game.
