Coton Green 2-6 Coventry Utd
Young Green Army fall at the first hurdle
The U16s fell at the first hurdle in the Birmingham Saturday Minor Cup against a talented Coventry United side.
And excellent first half, which saw goals from Adam Billett with a fantastic 25 yard strike leaving the visiting goalkeeper grasping at thin air, and then Malachi Searchwell-Snape scoring from an almost identical position sent the Green Army in 2-2 at half time.
However, Coventry United ran away with the game in the second half after individual errors were punished in the most severe way. The scoreline of 6-2 perhaps flattered the visitors, but 3 individual errors saw the game taken away from the Green Army.
If this group of Coton players are to fulfil the potential they have, they need cut out the errors, errors which they get away with in Sunday football, but at this level, teams will punish the mistakes.
There were some good individual performances today, with both goal scorers having good games, but recent signing Josh Russam walked away with the Man of the Match in what was his best game for the club so far.
Next week the U16s return to league action away to AFC Telford United.
