With the weather having saturated the pitch it looked as if this would be tight affair but the game got off to lightning quick start from the visitors. Good interplay between forwards and backs saw Dragons score three quick fire try’s, all coming from excellent line running from the forwards picking holes in the defence. The home side hit back with two try’s of their own after poor discipline gave them field position and quick hands from the backline stretched Coventry to breaking point. Prop Matt Carrier, Second row Lee Ashford picked up their second try’s of the afternoon to stretch the Dragons to a comfortable lead at half time.
The second half started much the same as the first with quick passing from dummy half giving the visitors momentum and putting in Centre James Horrocks for his second of the match before Carrier went over for a much deserved hat trick with a typically powerful run saw him shake off the attention of four would be tacklers. Captain Aron Jarvis went over on the short side of the pitch, on debut second rower Reece Clarke scored from close range then Andrew Rowlands intercepted a looping pass from the half-way line to race in under the posts to round off the scoring. Final score – NEW Ravens 22-60 Coventry Dragons.
Head Coach Lee Ashford said “Overall, I’m fairly happy with the performance. We scored a lot of try’s from good line running and support play but our defence at times was extremely poor and this is something we will need to tighten up for the run in”.
