We have now played our last home league game of the 2016/17 season so now is a good time to take a look at the figures over our Midland Football League Premier Division season. As you will see, the figures look healthy with an improvement in results combining with another increase in attendances.

We are pleased to confirm that we have surpassed last season’s league attendance total. This is particularly pleasing when you consider that last season we recorded our record home league gate when Hereford FC came to Sphinx Drive.

Last season we recorded a league average of 110 which is a satisfactory average for Step 5 of Non-League football. We achieved 4 attendances in excess of 100 too. This season we hoped to get close to those figures and we are delighted to have improved on them. In our 20 home league games we have recorded an average attendance of 117 which is a 6% increase on the 2015/16 season. Significantly we have doubled our 100+ gates this season with 8 of our home league matches at Sphinx Drive being watched by more than 100 spectators.

Our highest attendance of the season was on Boxing Day when we played our tenants Coventry Utd with 702 coming through the turnstile that day compared to the 935 that attended the Hereford FC match last season. This season’s average league attendance compares favourably with other Coventry Non-League clubs too.

Coventry Sphinx average league attendance is 117 which is 15% higher than any other Non-League club in Coventry.

However you look at the figures, it’s clear we have had a highly encouraging season and we are proud to continue with the best attendances of any Non-League club in the City of Coventry. Next season we hope to see a further improvement in the figures and you can help that. Encouraging others to attend games makes an important contribution to our attendances which can only help the manager create the best possible team for the club. Also, it really helps the players when they see and hear positive support coming from the side lines so please do help us with our target of increasing attendances yet again next season.

We have already welcomed new season ticket holders ahead of the 2017/18 season. They have been quick to take advantage of our 40% cut in season ticket prices and you can join them by becoming a Coventry Sphinx season ticket holder. Adult prices are now just £60, concessions £40 (over 65’s and under 21’s) and under 16’s continue to be admitted free of charge.
