He has also made important additions to his backroom team during the summer.
Lee Knibbs will be assisted by Shaun Thomas again and joining Shaun as assistant manager is John Woodward who arrives back at Sphinx Drive after a spell in the Coleshill Town backroom team that took the club to promotion. There are also three coaches appointed who will add crucial support to the manager. Dave Bull, who also manages the Coventry Sphinx Under 18 team, continues to work with the first team. Ross Perkins is a new recruit to the coaching team and joins from Coventry Copsewood. The goalkeeping department will be taken care of by Damian Morgan who has had previous stints in this role for Coventry Sphinx. Finally, we are delighted to retain the services of Gianni Sangiori who will be the Sports Therapist and Match Day Physio.
“Knibbo” has retained the majority of the squad that completed the season which has given him a strong base to work from. The recruitment of new players has taken place swiftly and decisively which has resulted in good competition for places and good depth already.
Jack Tregartha ended last season as the Coventry Sphinx Number One and he stays with the club. The experienced Tom Cross has arrived from Racing Club Warwick where he made 50 appearances last season. Supporting them will be Rich Obimpeh who has proven to be more than capable when called upon previously.
DEFENDERS: Established players such as Scott Lower, Michael Quirke, Louis Guest, Aaron Stringfellow, Rhys Deehan and Sam Wanless all stay with Coventry Sphinx. Joining the club is Ricky Hill, who returns for another spell at the club. Hill can play centre back or full back and is an imposing presence in the back line. Another new recruit is Lewis Hudson who impressed during a previous spell at Coventry Sphinx. Hudson is an attacking young left back and he will provide a different dimension to Lee Knibbs options. Supplementing the senior defensive players will be Reece Stowe who stepped up from the Coventry Sphinx Youth Team last season and Danny Bull who continues his development in the Under 18 squad this season.
MIDFIELDERS: Key players have stayed with the club in this area of the field. Centre midfielders Callum Woodward, Jackson Downie and Liam Cairns continue their football careers with Coventry Sphinx. Re-joining the club is tough tackling centre midfielder Chris Johnston and Ryan Caputo also returns after coming through the junior ranks at the club previously. Wide player Aaron Donaldson also continues his spell at Coventry Sphinx. Three more new signings include attacking midfielders Josh O’Grady and Leigh Phillips and the most recent addition is creative midfielder Myles Newman who joins after a spell at Stourport Swifts last season. Also in the midfield mix will be Sphinx youth team player Alex Bonkar who will also continue his development in the Sphinx Under 18’s.
FORWARDS: Jamie Towers extends his football career by another season by re-signing for Coventry Sphinx. The popular Nathan McGarrity returns to the club after a brief spell away. Louis Bridges adds to the forward options and Coventry born Liam Rock has been recruited after performing well in local leagues last season.
