COVENTRY SPHINX v AFC WULFRUNIANS
Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division
Fixture: Coventry Sphinx v AFC Wulfrunians
Date: Saturday 7th April
Venue: Sphinx Drive, off Siddeley Avenue, Stoke, Coventry, CV3 1WA
Kick-off: 3pm
PREVIEW: On Saturday we host Rugby Town in the MFL Premier Division at Sphinx Drive. Both clubs are in the top 10 of the division and they’ll be working hard to finish as strongly as they can as we approach the final month of the campaign.
COVENTRY SPHINX: 6th place Coventry Sphinx fell to defeat on Saturday at a damp Sphinx Drive. Two late goals from Rugby Town secured the points for the visitors. A number of key players were missing but that meant Youth team players Reece Stowe and Alex Bonkar got opportunities in the first team. A good crowd were there to see Bonkar make his Sphinx debut and with the weather forecast looking a lot better we’re hoping to see another good crowd on Saturday.
THE OPPOSITION: Wulfrunians sit in mid-table of the Premier Division and their recent form is a fair reflection of their season overall. They tend to win or draw their matches with only three draws recorded in the league all season. In the last two months they have played eight league fixtures although this will be their first match in a fortnight after last weekend’s postponement. Their last eight games have featured wins at Heanor Town and Westfields and a home win against Rocester. They have had four defeats recently including losses at Coleshill, Bromsgrove and Stourport. Their away form this season has had some very good results with wins at sides such as Heanor, Westfields, Rugby Town, Coventry Utd and Highgate so they are clearly capable of putting in a good performance on the road.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: When the sides met in November at Wulfrunians, Sphinx put in one of their performances of the season with a 5-0 win. Towers and Harkin doubles plus a strike from Donaldson gave Sphinx the points that day.
