Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division
Fixture: Coventry Sphinx v Dunkirk
Date: Tuesday 7th August
Venue: Sphinx Drive, off Siddeley Avenue, Stoke, Coventry, CV3 1WA
PREVIEW: On Tuesday evening we host Dunkirk in the MFL Premier Division at Sphinx Drive. Dunkirk return to the division after winning promotion from the East Midlands League.
COVENTRY SPHINX: Sphinx opened up their league campaign on Saturday and came away from Highgate United with a hard earned point.
THE OPPOSITION: Dunkirk immediately got a point on the board at the weekend with a draw away at fellow league newcomers Wolverhampton Sporting. Dunkirk recovered a two goal deficit to take a 2-2 draw in the Black Country.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The clubs last met in the 2015/16 season during Dunkirk’s last season in the MFL Premier Division. Dunkirk finished in the bottom three and were relegated alongside Bardon Hill and Continental Star. Dunkirk took the points against Sphinx in April but it was Sphinx who claimed the win when the sides met at Sphinx Drive in March. The three points for Sphinx came courtesy of goals from Kieran Nesbitt and Mitch Thomson. There were just two Sphinx players in the squad that day who are also currently in the Sphinx squad. Those players are Jackson Downie and Jacob Dodds who have both had spells away from the club before their recent returns to the Blue and White of Coventry Sphinx
