Competition: MFL League Cup - Round 3

Fixture: Coventry Sphinx v Coventry Utd
Date: Tuesday 4th December, 2018
Venue: Sphinx Drive, off Siddeley Avenue, Stoke, Coventry, CV3 1WA
Kick-off: 7.45pm
PREVIEW: Coventry Utd visit Sphinx Drive on Tuesday evening for the first ever cup tie between the clubs. The tie will be settled on the night and with both teams in good form, it’s all set up to be a cracker of a cup tie.
COVENTRY SPHINX: Sphinx have hit goal scoring form recently and Saturday’s 4-1 home win was preceded by a 5-1 away win at Wolverhampton Sporting. Their recent run of form has ended with just one defeat in their last seven fixtures which has lifted them to 4th place in the MFL Premier Division. Sphinx progressed to this round after a 3-0 win against MFL Division 1 club Leicester Road.
THE OPPOSITION: Coventry Utd have won their last two games without conceding a goal and that included their most recent match when they progressed in the FA Vase against Hinckley. A run of four away games produced two wins, a draw and a defeat at Stourport Swifts so their recent form will give them plenty of encouragement ahead of this cup tie. In the last round of the League Cup they overwhelmed MFL Division 2 club Bolehall Swifts by a score of 8-1.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS: The two clubs have already met in the league this season with a crowd of 321 watching Coventry Sphinx win 4-1 at Sphinx Drive in August. Last season the teams played out a 0-0 draw at The Butts near the end of the season. The Sphinx Drive match on Boxing Day was a total contrast with Sphinx edging a thriller 4-3 in front of a crowd of 643.
