REVIEW - HEANOR TOWN v COVENTRY SPHINX

COMPETITION: Total Motion Midland Football League Premier Division:

DATE: Saturday 24th March, 3pm

MATCH: Heanor Town v Coventry Sphinx

VENUE: The Town Ground, Mayfield Avenue, Heanor, Derbyshire, DE75 7EN

OFFICIALS: Jake Allsopp, Luke Rowley and Marcin Olszynski

Coventry Sphinx head into this fixture in good form after two big wins on the road. They followed up their 5-1 win at Lye Town with a 5-2 win at Shepshed Dynamo on Tuesday night. Harkin and Faulkner have caught the headlines with their goals but the team performance has been the stand out factor for those who have watched the two games. Coventry Sphinx are currently in 6th place but with their eyes firmly set above them. Coventry Sphinx have been defeated just three times away from home in the league this season and they will be hoping to maintain the standards of their away form this season.

THE OPPOSITION:

Heanor Town are currently on a run of five games without a win. That run has included a pair of 2-2 draws away from home against Bromsgrove and Quorn. Their most recent match was at home on Tuesday evening and they were defeated by a stoppage time winner for Wulfrunians after Heanor had equalised with an 89th minute penalty. Heanor have recorded 7 home wins from their 14 home fixtures this season and that has included wins against Worcester fairly recently and early season wins against Highgate Utd and Rugby Town.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:
In the autumn the two teams shared the points in a 6 goal thriller at Sphinx Drive. Heanor raced into a two goal lead but Guest pulled a goal back before Heanor re-established their two goal advantage on the stroke of half time. Sphinx responded well in the second half with goals from substitutes Burt and Brown earning them a point. Last season a depleted Sphinx won 2-1 at The Town Ground with goals from Kiembi and Harkin. That completed the double after Sphinx had won 1-0 at Sphinx Drive thanks to a Tom King goal.

FACILITIES: No parking is available inside the ground but there is plenty of on street parking available directly outside the ground. There is a bar within the ground and the hot food on offer is usually amongst the best in the league. There is a seated stand behind the goal and a covered terrace alongside the pitch
