Competition: Midland Football League Premier Division

Fixture: Long Eaton United v Coventry Sphinx
Date: Saturday 5th January, 2019
Venue: Grange Park, Station Road, Long Eaton, NG10 2EF
Kick-off: 3pm

PREVIEW: Coventry Sphinx travel north looking to continue their recent fine form but they know they’ll be in for a tough match with Long Eaton having the better of things in their meetings at Grange Park in recent years.

COVENTRY SPHINX: Coventry Sphinx have four consecutive wins ahead of this fixture. Home wins against Shepshed and Boldmere were punctuated by a big win at Ilkeston Town and a derby day win at Coventry Utd. Just two defeats in their last 12 games have lifted Sphinx up to third place in the MFL Premier Division. Their away record is good with just three defeats coming in their 12 away fixtures this season. The last away defeat was at Lye Town in early December.

THE OPPOSITION: Last time out, Long Eaton fell to a 3-0 defeat at title challengers Walsall Wood. The score was 0-0 before Long Eaton were reduced to ten men and Walsall Wood took full advantage to record the win with three second half goals. Before that Long Eaton picked up a point in a local derby at Dunkirk. Prior to those two games they won three consecutive matches which started with a 3-0 win at Highgate Utd. Two home wins followed with a 5-1 thrashing of Romulus and a 2-0 win against Stourport. Ruben Wiggins-Thomas is way out in front as the leading scorer with 17 goals in his 28 appearances. Wiggins-Thomas has been a consistent goal scorer in this division for a number of years and has had successful seasons in the past with clubs such as Rugby Town and Basford United.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS: Coventry Sphinx have failed to win at Long Eaton in their four previous MFL Premier Division visits. Sphinx have also scored just once in those visits which ended with one draw and three defeats. The two sides have already met this season with Sphinx comprehensive 5-2 winners at Sphinx Drive in October. A Ryan Harkin hat-trick and goals from Quirke and Grandison did the damage that day.

FACILITIES: Upon entry through the turnstiles, you will find a modern bar facility directly in front of you. Hot food and drinks will be available via the outside serving window. The ground has benefited from improvements in recent years and you will find a good quality spectator stand with good views of the action.

PARKING: Parking is available for supporters at the ground and is located directly outside the turnstiles in the club car park.

OFFICIALS: Daniel Clenton, Gary Taylor and James Wright.
