Proposed line up for the MFL Premier Division announced by The FA
Today we received official confirmation of the proposed constitution of the Midland Football League Premier Division for the 2018/19 season. There are a number of changes to the clubs participating within our division and the size of the division has been reduced from 22 clubs to 20 clubs. The league is set to get underway on Saturday 4th August.
In total there have been seven clubs departing the Premier Division and five clubs arriving in the division for next season. Champions Bromsgrove Sporting and runners up Coleshill Town have been promoted as expected. The bottom three have been relegated with Shropshire clubs Haughmond and Shawbury Utd both dropping back down to the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division. Staffordshire club Rocester have been relegated to the MFL Division 1.
There have also been a couple of surprising departures from the Division with last season’s 13th place team Heanor Town opting to take a voluntary relegation into the East Midlands Counties League Premier Division. Also on the move are Rugby Town who have been moved across to the United Counties League Premier Division. Rugby will now face trips to the likes of Boston, Peterborough and Sleaford in their new league. Rugby finished in 6th place in their first season at Step 5 and will now continue their Step 5 journey further east.
The five new arrivals are all as predicted with the exception of Ilkeston Town who have gained an unexpected promotion to the Premier Division. Ilkeston finished as runners up in the MFL Division 1 with just the Champions expected to receive promotion at the start of the season. The FA has subsequently made the decision to promote the runners up from that division, therefore Ilkeston step up to the Premier Division. The MFL Division 1 Champions Walsall Wood make an instant return to the Premier Division and their points total of 110 and their goals tally of 173 should make sure no one will be taking them lightly next season.
Also gaining promotion are Dunkirk who return to the division after winning the East Midlands Counties Premier Division. The Nottingham based club are joined by Wolverhampton Sporting who won the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division with an impressive record of 104 points and 148 goals. Finally, the Premier Division receives one relegated club with North Birmingham club Romulus dropping down to join us from the Northern Premier League.
The new additions to the league look strong and many of the leading clubs will be aiming high once again so we’ll be once again competing in a highly competitive Midland Football League Premier Division.
Note that this line up is a proposed constitution and is still subject to any potential appeals before final confirmation is received.
