Club History
Coventry Welsh RFC was founded in 1948. It began with an influx of Welsh miners coming to the city to work. There were plenty of expatriates around who wanted to play the game. Freddy Evans and Reg Short were instigators of the first Coventry Welsh team getting together.
They did their first training at The Pilot Public House, Radford, Coventry. This was where they were to hold tea dances to finance the building of the clubhouse in Burbages Lane, Exhall, where the clubhouse still stands today.
It was during the early seventies that saw Coventry Welsh form a successful colts team that went on to form the nucleus of the side which saw us win the Warwickshire cup twice.
The current first team has followed this trend, and is based on a successful colts team from the nineties. We are continuing investment in youth development with the junior sides to hopefully secure a successful future for the club.
