Berffo return to winning ways
Comfortable 4-0 away win at Talysarn
On Saturday we travelled to Talysarn eager to get onto the pitch after a week out of the action and our last game being the heavy defeat at Bro Goronwy. We went there knowing it was important to put that result at the back of our minds and the only way to do so was through coming back with all 3 points. The home side had started the season with just one win in 7 games but it's never an easy place to travel to and we expected a tough encounter.
From the word go, we were at it and looked to attack in numbers as we quickly to control of the game. Within the first 5 minutes we'd threatened to open the scoring but were denied by some good goalkeeping but we weren't to be denied a few minutes later when Rich set us on our way. Some quick passing in midfield between Harper and Matty led to some space being created where Iwan was able to step out from the back and send a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Pdoing who took one touch before drilling a low shot which gave the keeper no chance. More chances soon followed as both Earnie and Ieu were getting forward at will and joining in the attacks. We didn't have to wait long before we doubled our lead as good work down the right from Ieu led to a corner being won which was delivered superbly to the back stick where Bolton got in front of his man and volleyed home from 6 yards out. The home side were struggling to cope with the constant pressure and struggled to keep hold of possession, resorting to some direct long balls which were coped with well by Jenks Gaz and Iwan who gave little to their strikers. We continued to press on, sensing more goals, Connor was unlucky when a powerful run from midfield was only thwarted by some last ditch defending after being found by a clever ball by Earnie and then a Rich Pdoing header came back off the underside of the crossbar with the keeper grateful to see the ball fall into his hands. Bolton had half a chance when found with a good pass through from midfield but his first touch on the edge of the box just gave the Talysarn defender the chance to nip in and clear away. On the half hour mark we extended our lead with another good team goal that our play deserved. Possession was won sharply by Jenks at the back, with the ball moving quickly onto Connor who exchanged passes with Ieu before Rich was sent away into the right channel, cutting in from the byline he picked up his head and cut back into a dangerous area, Matty rushing in from the edge of the box, struck low and hard through a ruck of despairing Talysarn bodies and the ball whistled passed the keeper to make it 3. For the rest of the half we took our foot off the gas but still created chances to put the game way beyond the reach of the home side, but some resolute defending by the home sides central defensive pair kept it at 0-3 half time.
Changes were made early in the second half, we switched system and personnel with Andrew coming on at half time, followed soon after by Karl and we looked to add to our goal tally whilst keeping solid at the back. Andrew was involved soon after coming on with some direct running down the right win causing problems for the left back but his final ball just missed its intended target on a couple of occasions on Talysarn were able to clear their lines. Karl entered the field just before the hour mark and almost had his name on the score sheet soon after but his powerful header from a Gaz Wyn corner cannoned off the cross bar. Rich added his second of the game just beyond the hour when again some good play in midfield led to Bolton being found in acres of space on the right side of the penalty area, bearing down on the keeper he showed great awareness and unselfishness to square to the awaiting Pdoing who did the rest to take his tally to 15 for the season. For the rest of the second half again we took our foot off the pedal with the game well and truly won, we created enough to add to the tally but just lacked a clinical streak when in some good positions. Andrew was sent clear but his shot was straight at the keeper and then with little left in the game, Bolton found himself almost in the same situation as for our fourth goal where again he looked to square to Karl but the home side were able to scamper clear. With little under 2 minutes to go the home side had their best chance and perhaps their only chance of the game when Gav was called into action for the first time in the game. A deep free kick was swung in and their left back got up well and headed down perfectly towards the bottom corner, only for Gav to pull off a superb stop low down to his left and tip around the post. Full time 0-4 Man of the Match Steve Jenks
Saturday was a great result for us after the last few weeks, 3 points, goals and a clean sheet. We did ease up once we were 3-0 up and could have gone on to score more goals had we have just been more clinical. The home side deserve some credit aswell, after losing 2 players to injuries in the first 20 mins and using the only 2 subs they had, they dug in and kept going right till the end. A mention must also go to Gav Bach for his outstanding save right at the death following probably 88 minutes where he hardly had a save to make. Now we return to cup action with a tough trip away to Llanllyfni in the FAW Trophy round 3 this Saturday
