Bolton's second hatrick in a week seals 3 points for Berffro
Another 3 goals for talisman Bolton as Berffro secure 5-2 win
On Saturday we played our first home game of 2017 and Harlech were the visitors, making the long journey up for a league match with another 3 crucial points at stake. Following last weeks 5-2 away win at Nefyn we went in full of confidence and knew this was a vital game for us to continue on our fine recent form.
Just as we did last week, we started right on the front foot and piled pressure on the away side who were really sluggish out of the blocks. Ieu and Rich were involved early on from their full back positions but in attacking positions rather than defensively as we pressed high and Harlech struggled to get out of their own half. No real chances were created but we looked sharp on the ball with Connor Adam and Matty in midfield looking forward at every opportunity and picking out good passes into the front two. Despite the early pressure, disaster struck with less than 10 minutes played a Harlech took the lead with their first foray forward into our half. A hopeful ball down the right was kept in play by their lively number 9 who found his strike partner in the box who finished well to put the away side 1 up. For a spell afterwards we were slightly nervy on the ball and allowed Harlech time to settle with Jenks and Iwan in particular defending well against their pacey front two to keep us in it. We didn't have to wait long to get back to level terms as Gary Bolton got on the score-sheet with a very brave effort. Andrew's powerful shot was turned wide by the keeper and from the resulting corner swung in by Gaz Wyn, the loose ball dropped between 2 defenders, the keeper and Bolton, who wanted it more and stooped low with his head to turn it home and took a kick in his head for his efforts. The goal certainly settled us down as we took over control of possession and got into good attacking areas but couldn't quite force any major chances to threaten the keeper. The away side continued to be a threat on the break but with Gaz Wyn covering behind Jenks and Iwan, their chances were very few and far between. With half an hour gone we were in front and deservedly so, Connor found Ieu down the right with a good pass and he had the presence of mind to cut inside, beat his man and slide a perfect ball into the feet of Ad who was unmarked on the edge of the area, he shifted the ball onto his left and struck his shot low down the middle, the Harlech keeper had already dived to his left and the ball rolled into the back of the net. 2-1 half time.
The second half started much the same as the first, with us in the ascendancy and dominating the ball but the visitors still carrying that threat in the counter but within 10 minutes of the restart we had our third and took the game away from Harlech. Andrew, whose pace was a constant thorn for the Harlech backline, picked up a clever pass from midfield and spun away from his marker, bearing down on the keeper his shot looked to be making it into the bottom corner but with defenders desperately trying to reach it before it crossed the line, Bolton was on hand to slide in and make sure of it. We continued to create chances with a few dangerous crosses from both flanks but the final touches just eluded us. Harlech dug in during a tough spell when we looked to take the game beyond them, and were rewarded when they brought the game back to 3-2. Their winger broke clear although his first effort was superbly saved by Gav, he was able to strike the loose ball in off the post to bring them back into it. The setback didn't deter us though as it didn't take us long to regain our two goal advantage as Andrew got the goal his all round performance deserved. Connor won possession well in midfield and exchanged passes well with Matty. Bolton then got involved in the build up and played a great ball into the feet of Andrew, with his back to goal his first touch opened up a yard of space and he buried his left footed shot into the bottom corner. The goal deflated the away side and we pushed on looking for more, Harper saw his looping header sail over the bar and then Liam had his double effort blocked by some good defending after another Gaz Wyn corner caused trouble in the opposition box. With time almost up, it was down to Gary Bolton to finish the scoring for the day and bag another hat-trick for himself. We won possession in our own box and the ball made it's way out to the right where Ieu Lloyd went on an outstanding, 70 yard driving run forward. After surging into the box he picked out Bolton in the 6 yard box and laid it on a plate for him as Gary tapped in to seal the win. 5-2 full time, Man of the Match Andrew Jones
Another 5-2 win after the same outcome as last week away to Nefyn. 10 goals in our last 2 games and another hatrick for Gary Bolton and he has started 2017 on fire. A really good team performance with some good individual performances yet again this week. Ieu Lloyd was very impressive down the right again and showed great fitness levels, constantly bombing up and down the flank and in particularly for Gary's hatrick goal. A tough test up next as we travel to face Beaumaris away on the 3G at Nantporth
