Berffro hit Waun for 6
Return to winning ways
On Wednesday night we faced an in form Waunfawr side at Cae Cynlas as we looked to put the disappointment of the last couple of weeks behind us, it just so happened to be the perfect match for us as we ran away 6-1 winners and returned to winning ways.
With confidence not at its highest we needed to settle early and were given the perfect start when we took the lead just on ten minutes. Jenks delivered a feee kick from deep and with 3 of our players beating Waun's offside trap, it was Connor who met the delivery on the volley and showed great technique as his effort flew into the top corner. From that moment on we dominated proceedings, Connor and Wally winning the central midfield battle and the back 4 sticking to their task well and denying Waun any sort of opportunities. Nath Moore showed some great trickery down the left when he took on 3 players before unleashing an effort from
the edge of the area which was blocked well by the Waun captain. The visitors then struggled to deal with a flurry of set pieces on 25 minutes and we doubled our lead when Wally thundered home a header from a Harper delivery. Bolton thought he'd made it 3 a few moments later when he got on the end of a right wing cross from Harper and powered his header into the net only for the linesman to raise his flag. With a 2-0 advantage we seemed to step off the gas slightly and despite Waun rarely threatening Gav with anything of note, they pegged us back when a corner was whipped in and Connor was unfortunate to see it him at the front post and gave them a way back into it. For a spell after we really struggled to get our early dominance and rhythm back but with just under a minute to go until the break we had a third which seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors. Wally won an aerial battle in midfield and Connor picked up the second ball moving it onto Bolton quickly, his pass then found Rich on the edge of the area, with his pace taking him away from the centre half before he struck a low left footed effort into the far corner. 3-1 half time
The message at half time was to continue to press on and that the next goal was crucial. Despite now playing into the strong wind we started the second half much as we had the first and our early goal after the break took the game away from Waun. Connor again was at the heart of the move as he drove forward in midfield and slipped a ball through to Rich, his effort came back off the post and rolled along the goalline where he made sure of it to put us 4-1 up. The away side kept plugging away but couldn't find a way through a solid back 4, Jenks and Iwan were in no mood to let this lead slip and were superbly backed up on the flanks by Al and Billy who didn't give their wingers a sniff. Sensing there was more goals for us in the match we pushed on and duly for our 5th, Harper playing a ball over the top for Rich whose pace was too much for his opponent, he then squared unselfishly to Sgruff who tapped in for number 5. 5 became 6 with a goal of real quality, Earnie, on as a sub down the right wing, produced a wonderful cross into the box with his right foot and it was met by Bolton who headed in for a deserved goal after a tireless display from him. The rest of the game was managed out well as the visitors struggled to muster up any sort of chance and were constantly met by a resolute Berffro back four. Full time 6-1, Man of the Match Rich Roberts.
