Berffro off the mark in Welsh Alliance

First win of the season brings 3 point for Berffro

Tonight we lined up for another Anglesey Derby as we took the short trip to Llanerchymedd as we looked for our first points of the season in the league and we travelled with some confidence following an impressive Welsh Cup win at Trearddur Bay on Saturday.

A couple of changes to Saturdays starting eleven were forced upon us due to injuries to Billy and Adam with Connor, Iwan and Jenks all returning to the team. The game started off with Llan looking to force us into some early pressure but we soon settled and dominated the majority of the play and possession. Harper and Connor looked comfortable in midfield and linked well early on, playing some nice passes forward into the feet of Nath Moore who looked sharp during the opening quarter and was finding a lot of space. It didn't take long for us to create our first big chance of the game as Rich Pdoing was sent clean through but his shot was saved well by Llan's custodian. Llan continued to work hard and played with a more direct approach, looking for their lively striker with some long balls and trying to feed off any second balls, but failed to really create any clear cut chances and rarely tested Gerallt in goal. We continued to attack at every opportunity and after Gary Boltons effort from the edge of the 6 yard box was comfortably saved, Rich was sent scampering through one on one by Nath Moore but this time his shot just dragged inches wide of the near post with the keeper beaten. We weren't to be denied on the half hour mark when we final had the opener that our play deserved, Nath Moore did well on the edge of the box to hold the ball well and find Harper, he in turn flicked the ball into Connors path who quickly spotted a gap to play Bolton in, this time Bolton made no mistake as his sliding strike made it 1-0. If we felt the goal would settle our play even more, it had the opposite effect as for the rest of the half we struggled to keep hold of possession and were guilty of being slightly too casual in possession and didn't really threaten going forward, but with Jenks and Iwan looking solid at the back we didn't look like giving much away to the hosts. 0-1 half time

At the start of the second half we expected the home side to come at us and throw more caution to the wind but we were on the front foot again with Connor now finding himself in more advanced positions and dominating the midfield battle. A few half chances fell for Rich and Nath up top from some good crosses from the wide areas from Gaz Wyn, and we were rewarded for our positive play just before the hour with a goal of real quality. Ieu Lloyd won possession just on the half way line and galloped forward, playing a quick one two with Gary he continued his run deep into Llans half before playing a delightful ball back to Bolton who had the presence of mind to pick out Nath with his cut back, Nath did the rest with a clinical finish to make it 2-0. Again for a brief spell after our goal the home side rallied and tried desperately to force a way back into the game but the sting was taken out of every possible attack by a resolute Berffro back four, and Harper and Connor continued to work hard in front of them to deny any space. The home side did have one great chance to get back into the game, but some great covering defending saw Iwan superbly block a goalbound effort off the line. Going into the last quarter of the match we were able to completely take the game away from Llan as 2 became 3 which quickly after became 4. Before our third goal, Jenks had a superb headed effort into the top corner disallowed harshly for offside, but we didn't have to wait long to kill the game off. Again good work down the right involving Bolton and Ieu led to Ieu delivering a dangerous cross into the box, the hosts could only half clear to the edge of the box where Gaz Wyn took one touch to steady himself before striking goalwards and the ball somehow squirmed under the keeper to make it 3. Some 5 minutes later as we entered the final 10 of the game, Nath Moore had a deserved second as he latched onto a through ball from Rich Pdoing and once again he showed great calmness in front of goal to dispatch it way beyond the keepers reach to make it 4-0. There was still time for more as Rich thundered a 25 yard effort off the crossbar, a goal would have been just reward for him after another tireless display up top but tonight It wasn't to be for the front man. 0-4 full time, Nath Moore man of the match.

A good win for us tonight, our first ever win at this level and a thoroughly deserved 3 points on the balance of play. Our football at times was really good when in possession, just guilty of being slightly casual on the ball when we were in front but a very good result, 4 goals and a clean sheet for us, and more importantly 3 points on the board. Again a very good team performance like Saturday at T Bay and also some stand out individual performance, Nath Moore looked very sharp and good to see him get a double, Connor dominated in midfield and Iwan and Jenks continued with a solid display at the back and the clean sheet will give the back four a massive confidence boost. On to Saturday now, at home against title favourites Prestatyn Sports.
