CPD Glantraeth V Mynydd Tigers

CPD Glantraeth Maul Tigers !!

Mynydd Tigers got the game underway today, at a blustry and wet Cae Glantraeth, and were under pressure from the Glantraeth attack from the first whistle. With some early pressure Dion Williams found his cross blocked by the Mynydd defence resulting in an early corner for the home side. The resulting corner was swung in and Andy Clarke found himself unmarked and finished tidily from 6 yards out in the 6th minute, 1-0 Glantraeth. Glantraeth continued to find space in behind the Mynydd defence as Nick Clark went through and was fouled by the keeper resulting in a penalty. Andy Clarke stepped up and drove the ball past the out stretched keeper into the top right corner of the goal on the 12th minute, 2-0 Glantraeth. With Mynydd struggling to find a foot hold in the game a tidy passage of passing play was finished with a through ball from Dylan Williams to Dion Williams who finished from 18 yards with the shot going in off the post in the 18th minute, 3-0 Glantraeth. Mynydd rallied after the third goal forcing Rhys Roberts into a great 1 v 1 save. With pressure building from Mynydd Glantraeth were able to take advantage from a sloppy corner from the visitors and countered forcing the keeper into a save. With the game becoming stretched Tim Evans was shown a yellow card for a slide tackle resulting in a Mynydd free kick which was fired wide. Glantraeth began to regain possession and some tidy build up play ended with a tame effort straight at the keeper. Mynydd pushed forward again looking to reduce the deficit before half time and were awarded a free kick withing shooting range, with Dylan Williams getting a yellow card for appealing the decision. The resulting free kick struck the Glantraeth bar and was cleared. As the first half drew to a close Glantraeth were award a free kick 25 yards from goal which was fired well wide by Dylan Williams. This brought an end the first half.
With Glantraeth looking to maintain their lead and keep Mynydd at bay, Glantraeth started the second half in a positive manner. In the 47 minute Glantraeth forced an early corner which was well dealt with by the Mynydd defence. Glantraeth began to stamp their authority on the second half with a good spell of possession. The was played in behind the Mynydd defence and Nick Clark was able to make the most of a goalkeeping error and tap into an empty net in the 50th minute, 4-0 Glantraeth. Glantraeth were able to keep the pressure on with Tom Hadley forcing an excellent save from the keeper who tip a looping header onto the bar. Two minutes later in the 55 minute Tom Hadley again forced a save from the keeper this time in a 1v1 situation. Glantraeth kept the pressure up and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box with Nick Clark forcing a great save from the keeper. The ongoing pressure then resulted in a lovely assist from Andy Clark with a square ball across the 6 yard box for Dion Williams to tap home in the 62 minute, 5-0 Glantraeth. The management looked to freshen things up with a double substitution with Nathan Roberts and Robbie Jones replacing Tom Hadley and Tim Cavanagh. With Glantraeth seeing a lot of the ball Nick Clark broke through the Mynydd defence again with resulted in not only one but two fouls in the box. Neither deemed a foul by the referee but as a dive which bemused both teams, Nick Clark was given a yellow card 70 minute. This only spurred Nick Clark on as he grabbed his second of the game with thunderous 18 yard effort in the 71st minute, 6-0 Glantraeth. Glantraeth continued to push forward and from a corner Dylan Hughes was able to pick up a loose ball and curl in an effort from the edge of the box in the 76th minute, 7-0 Glantraeth. From a lovely move down the left hand side Nick Clark almost grabbed his third with an over head kick which narrowly went over the bar. With the game coming to a close Andy Clarke was able to break through once again a calmly slotted home for his Hat-trick in the 86th minute, 8-0 Glantraeth. From the resulting kick off Mynydd attacked with purpose and crafted a great opportunity from the edge of the box which was skilfully tucked away from the edge of the box in the 87 minute, 8-1 Glantraeth. With the rain starting to fall Glantraeth were determined to finish strong and almost had another with a driving long range effort which just clipped the post. In the final attack of the game once again Nick Clark found himself 1v1 with the goalkeeper and was again fouled resulting in a penalty, which he dispatched himself into the roof of the net in the 90th minute, 9-1 Glantraeth. As the quickly as the game restarted it was brought to an end with the final whistle. There were some impressive individual performances today with Iwan Kirkham being awarded Man of the Match.
