Costly errors prove to be Downfall
As Penmaenmawr Phoenix take all 3 points
Saturday (14/04/18), we travelled to Penmaenmawr Phoenix looking to bounce back from last weekend's embarrassing showing against Meliden. There were no few than 6 missing for us so we were travelling with a bare minimum squad.
First Half began quite lively for us with strings of good play from us and it pay dividends when we took the lead on 20 minutes, cross from the right hand side from Captain on the day Mark Jones into the penalty box and there was Richard Jones to sweep the ball into the bottom corner of the goal, 1-0 to Llan. As the half went on, the hosts were getting back into the game and soon equalised with 10 minutes to go until half time, ball over the top of the defence and their No 9 latched onto the ball which looked to be in an offside position but the linesman's flag didn't go up and he scored.
Half Time: Penmaenmawr 1 - 1 Llan.
Message at Half Time from Meirion the manager was to keep going at them beginning of the second half and try to unsettle them at the back and also keep it tight for the first 10 minutes.
But 5 minutes into the second half, the half time team talk went into disarray. A scuffed clearance from the left hand side fell into their No 9 again he wrong footed Lewis Connor and finished coolly past Pete in the goal sending him the wrong way. 10 minutes after 2 became 3 as a cross came in from the left - Iwan made a fantastic sliding clearance but with Pete committed in the goal the ball fell right into the feet of their winger for him to tap it in, 3-1. The rest of the game we were chasing, trying to get back to the game, but only creating half chances, the best one falling to Iwan (Assistant Manager) but the keeper was equal to it tipping it over the bar.
Final Score: Penmaenmawr 3 -1 Llan
Again, we feel it was a missed chance to pick some points as we prove to be our own downfall with costly errors at vital times in games. Unless we cut them out, the verdict is going to be the same every game unfortunately. Some positives and negatives to take out from the game but the result was not what we wanted. Onto the next game in what will be a very tough game as we host Bodedern Athletic FC on Thursday Night at Tan Parc with a 6:30pm Kick Off and hoping to bounce back from the disappointment of this game.
Man of the Match: Lewis Connor
