CAERNARFON WANDERERS 2 - 5 LLANRUG UNITED
United were missing inspirational captain and central defender Eifion Williams due to injury, but Welsh Schoolboys International Iwan Price was a very reliable replacement. United welcomed back midfielder Dan Pyrs back from his midweek excursion to sunny Spain.
The host struck first on five minutes, United failed to deal with a cross from the right, the ball came off the crossbar and fell kindly for the unmarked Dylan Peters to strike home from two yards out.
United drew level on seventeen minutes, an Iwan Price free kick form deep in his own half found Mathew Phillips on the left, who passed the ball inside to Rhys Roberts. Roberts skipped passed a couple of defenders before laying the ball into the path of David Noel Williams on the right. Williams passed the ball across the host keeper into the bottom corner of the net to give United a well deserved equaliser.
On thirty five minutes David Noel Williams gave United the lead, a direct free kick from near the right hand corner flag found its way into the net, with striker Rhys Roberts trying to claim the goal.
Within seconds to the interval Jonathan Sadler brought the host level, ghosting in at the far post with an easy tap-in to a cross from the right.
United got a roasting at the interval, and came out blazing for the second half, but despite dominating proceedings and creating several good goal scoring opportunities failed to find the back of the host net until the seventieth minute. Mathew Phillips won the ball in midfield, and found striker Rhys Roberts who passed the ball into the path of Carl Griffiths. Griffiths skipped pass a defender and placed the ball into the bottom corner of the net, beyond the advancing keeper to give United a deserved lead.
Griffiths extended United’s advantage on eighty six minutes, pouncing on a loose ball in area following hesitation in the host rearguard. And substitute Gareth Edwards finished things off for United with a fine individual goal on eighty eight minutes. Receiving the ball in his own half and rounding the advancing keeper and skipping passed a defender to blast the ball into the net from two yards out.
A well disaplined performance from the whole squad, striker Rhys Roberts got the United ‘Man of The Match’ award for his high work rate throughout, and special praise must go to United’s young rearguard who were well marshalled by Ceirion Williams.
Next up for United is a Welsh Alliance League Match this Wednesday, 24th August at Eithin Duon against Pwllheli.
