In a game billed as “Waking the Dead” the newly formed Crawley Bulldogs entertained Pulborough 3’s in the first of a series of games aimed at getting players back onto the rugby pitch. Targeted players include those that have thought themselves retired at an early age, young players that have not played since returning from university or progressing into the senior game and also those that are just a bit too lazy to commit.

The team was to be bolstered with a few regular players to help keep momentum going.
It took just eleven days from concept to the first game and social media has attracted the interest of nearly one hundred players, many that have not played for ten years.
Playing an experienced veterans team a win was always going to be a dream and the bulldogs starting line-up had only a handful of games between them in recent years.
The horrendous weather conditions did nothing to dampen the mood and with Crawley tries from Nick Nabney who was assisted by Jason Watts throwing off the years and sprinting like a gazelle and Dave Bevan as a highlight for the returning gladiators the points against were just incidental.
The smiles on the faces of those that took part lasted all weekend, as did the legendary stories of how each players contributed to the score line in a similar manner of all the best fishing tales.
The next Crawley Bulldogs game is scheduled for the 28th Feb with a 16:30 Kick Off. If anyone has any interest in taking part please visit the Crawley Bulldogs FaceBook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/792956960741714/
