Today on a crisp, sunny Spatri morning, we took a keen group of young players to play in their inaugural tournament.

We were set to play against two Aspatria RFC teams and one Whitehaven team, but we decided that with an inexperienced team, that it wouldn’t be the best idea to face them as they were a much stronger side.

With a strong team of 7 eager kids Creighton Minis played their first game against the Aspatria 1 team. It was a closely fought match with some impressive footwork setting up tries from Creighton. With 11 tries in total being ran in by both teams, the parents and players were elated.

Aspatria 2 team were next on the cards. The match was again a very close one. This time our Youth team upped their defence with some brave defence, preventing many tries just feet from the line. Again, the kids and parents were chuffed.

The next two games were against Aspatria 1 team and Aspatria 2 team again, with two very close games with everything that Creighton had learnt in their first two games.

In total our U8s team scored an impressive 22 tries, with Hannah and Alfie scoring 5 tries a piece and Lucas scoring an incredible 8 tries. With this weeks player of the day going to Isaac, who hadn’t even touched a rugby ball till earlier this week. He even scored a try for Aspatria against Whitehaven. All the kids agreed that he was worthy of it.

A great morning of rugby was had by kids, parents, coaches and all. A big thanks to Aspatria RFC for hosting an event, in the aid of improving the future of Cumbria’s rugby clubs.
