Are we fit? Er no, not really...are we gonna be fit? - Hell yes!

So football isn't coming home just quite yet, but they gave it a damn good go! - Anyway what have we been doing? Ah yes, pre-season training!!

This week as with the last has focused primarily on fitness, it's clear already that after only a few weeks the boys are getting fitter and stronger, but there's still a ways to go!

I'll focus on the Thursday session as Tuesday was a mix between training and o2 touch, which given how early we are into pre-season isn't a bad way to build up some base fitness!

So Thursday; Smally kicked it off with a 3 minute race around the pitch, basically racing against ourselves with an aim to get further than we did last week, and I'm pretty sure most of us did which is a great start!

Next up we split into two groups evenly balanced between forwards and backs for some HIIT sprint drills. Each drill varied in distance, duration and threw in some direction changes. These sprints are perfect for getting the lads used to fitness on the rugby field; 10-25 second bursts, followed by short rest, into another burst of speed or power.

I'm a bit short on pictures this week, was more focused on not dieing off after all the sprinting, but here's one of the beautiful Oli Holmes looking truly glad to be back on the rugby pitch:

Once we'd finished with the sprints and a range of Plyometric exercises, we split into two groups; one went off with Duds to do some wrestling workouts designed to build fitness in the contact area, and the other group went with Smally to do a small fitness circuit before swapping over.

We finished off the session with 5 hill sprints without rest on the short & steep hill, and another 5 on the long yet still steep hill. - Was a fantastic effort from all the boys!
