The u18s season finished with a home game against Macclesfield. This was also an important game for Macclesfield as it was their last ever game as a team. Crewe included 2 U16s for the first time this season, Emily Done and Chloe Williams , but still only had nine players for the game , so we anticipated a long afternoon
The game started with early pressure from Macclesfield, but Charlie made a couple of comfortable saves and the back three of Chloe B , Abbey and Lauren, were dealing with most of the early attacks. Up front Josie and Jasmine were starting to cause problems with their pace and direct running at the Macc defence, and a number of half chances came and went . Aimee was creating a number of openings with her passing, and Chloe W and Emily were settling into the team and working hard to win the ball in midfield. After 20 mins Macc scored after a period of pressure, but again as we have seen a number of times this season, going behind didn’t affect the team and we got to half time still only one down.
The team were told at half time to keep doing exactly what we had been doing, and we were still in with a chance of getting a result. The second half followed the same pattern and it was difficult to tell we were the team with only 9 players . Josie who was having an outstanding game , and covering every inch of the pitch made the Macc keeper work hard to keep her from scoring , and Jasmine hit the post . With the Crewe girls now on top Jasmine equalised following a great flick on from Josie .. As the game entered the last few minutes Macc hit the bar , but some outstanding defending by the keeper and some great tackling from the back three kept Macc from getting a winner. Great debuts from Emily and Chloe, and a fantastic performance from all the team to finish the season on a real positive .
