Earlier in the season we lost a tight match 4-3 to Runcorn , but in that game they showed a mixture of strength and determination, plus a real desire to pass the ball properly.
We had a full squad with subs, but Runcorn only had 9 players . For the first 10 minutes it was clear that Runcorn were going to defend in numbers and look to break when they had the opportunity .They also were putting in some strong tackles to break down Crewe attacks.
However Josie put us one up , and following another foul on her, Brit curled in a great free kick to make it 2-0. Beth then made it 3-0, before Lauren got her first of the afternoon to make it a comfortable 4- 0 at half time . Lauren added two more in the second half as did Jasmine , to make it a third straight win this year. The main positive from the afternoon was the real improvement in the quality of our passing , with the defenders bringing the ball out , using the wings, and the midfielders being much more creative than in many previous games . We also gave the ball away a lot less , and generally the individual decision making was a lot better . The only area that was a little disappointing was the lack of quality in our finishing, with a number of chances being wasted by poor finishing or poor decision making in the penalty area .
