Fantastic performance by U18's with only 9 players

Game six of the season brought Frodsham to the Reaseheath College . In normal circumstances this would be a fixture that a full strength Crewe U18s would look to continue their early season progress. However due to a number of players being unavailable we lined up with only 9 players . Charley started in goal , and in front was a back three of Britney, Sophie and Abbey , with a three in midfield of Aimee , Lauren G and Beth , with two upfront, Jasmine and Lauren R.

The plan was to try to keep as much possession as possible , but look for quick counter attacks. Straight from the kick off it was obvious the team were really up for this game , and in the first couple of minutes we had two chances which with a bit of calmer finishing could have put us into a very early lead . The formation looked to be working well , and the back three , were not only cutting out any attacks but creating opportunities for the forwards and midfield to create chances.

On 20 minutes Jasmine who was causing all sorts of problems for the defence broke through to put us one up. Everybody was battling hard , and looking to win tackles and stop Frodsham from creating anything . Lauren R was looking sharp , and in midfield Beth was tracking back and closing down , along with Lauren G ,who was winning lots of tackles and was having her best game of the season . After 30 mins Jasmine scored a second with a great effort , to give us some breathing space on another very warm afternoon .Sophie the suffered a bad knee injury and it was plain to see she was in a lot of pain, and was not coming back on . We again had to change the formation , now with 8 with Abbey and Britney swapping roles between defence and midfield , but we continued to push and just before half time Abbey hit a 30 yard effort which the keeper failed to hold to make it 3-0.

The second half followed a very similar pattern , as we held Frodsham , allowing them only shots from distance. Charley did a dual job as keeper/sweeper and was rarely troubled . Half way through the second half a great cross allowed Lauren, who was clearly struggling with a knock to her leg , to head home to make it 4-0.Other chances came and went with Beth continuing to battle and create chances , there was no easing off until the final whistle.

Great performances by all the players , and best wishes to Sophie and hope the injury is not as bad as first thought.
