Match Report: Crewe Alexandra Ladies 1-3 Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies

A second half goal from Amanda Fallon wasn’t enough for The Alex Ladies to clinch all three points today at the Cumberland Arena.

Norton and Stockton Ancients quickly took the lead in the 20th minute after a free-kick is headed underneath Holloway at the near post.

Laura Goom gave away a penalty just after the second half had kicked off after taking down the Norton winger from behind. The spot-kick sent goalkeeper Hannah Holloway the wrong way.

Fallon scored just after the hour mark to get CALFC back in it after chasing down a Norton defender and converted the rebound into the back of the net.

Five minutes later the visitors were back in front after a through ball again is tucked under Holloway.

With the visitors two up with 20 minutes to go, Fallon drilled a shot wide from just inside the box as Crewe looked to make it an exciting finish.

The Alex Ladies started confidently after Amy Colledge smashed a half volley over from a corner.

CALFC were mainly threatening down the left channel with Colledge and Megan Booth linking up, however on most occasions the Norton defence came out on top.

The final whistle was minutes away when Goom and skipper Katie Nuttall made two brilliant last ditch clearances to clear a certain Norton goal.

Another tough game for Crewe at home but they will now look to focus on next week’s challenge away at joint-top side Burnley. Skipper Katie Nuttall was awarded with player of the match.
