Alex Ladies Back To Winning Ways

Denton Town Ladies 1 – 4 Crewe Alexandra Ladies.
Crewe Alexandra Ladies travelled to Denton Town Ladies for their 3rd game in 8 days which had so far seen the Alex ladies pick up 4 points from 6. Crewe had the best chances of the early stages with Katy Connell and Anne Marie Atherton both coming to the opening goal but missing the target narrowly. Crewe continued to pile on the pressure breaking down the Denton attacks and subsequently counter attacking for the opening goal, Leanne Derry broke down the Denton attack and sent Anne Marie Atherton out wide who delivered a weighted cross from the left to Katy Connell who converted first time for the opening goal. With this Crewe pressed for the second goal however lost possession in the central midfield which Denton quickly took advantage of dribbling into the box where Crewe defender was sent the wrong way and Denton equalised slotting into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Crewe bounced back with immediate effect and continued to have greater possession of the two sides, Michelle Hadnum linked up defence to attack with some quality control and distribution and sent the ball into Katy Connells feet inside the box who turned and finished leaving the Denton Defence and Goalkeeper stranded. Connell still pushed for the greater margin and continually caused the Denton defence a problem and was rewarded with her hard work with a first half hat-trick before half time, this was a credit to Full Back Beth Oakes whose movement off the ball created a numerical advantage in wide areas and left Connell with the space inside to convert her 3rd goal of the game.

Crewe came out the second half as direct as they had finished the 1st and several attacking opportunities left Denton clearing the danger and putting the ball out for throw ins and corners, this allowed Crewe to challenge their set pieces specialists of which some clinical delivery from Sarah Gill sent the ball into dangerous areas, the third of which Crewe converted through a Shell Saunders volley just inside the box leaving the score at 4-1 to Crewe which was the final score. Crewe Continue their North West Women’s Regional League campaign at home to Northwich Victoria next Sunday at MMU Alsager Campus, Crewe 2:00 Kick Off.
