History

Crewe and Nantwich Steamers RL started in early 2003 as a junior academy team with some senior players, due to Crewe Wolves already fielding a full senior side Crewe and Nantwich Steamers and Crewe wolves joined to create one senior and one academy team under one club, however this lasted until 2007 when crewe and Nantwich Steamers left to create a full senior side of its own with an academy team. The first game under crewe and Nantwich Steamers senior side was against sheffield Forgers where the steamers were narrowly beaten.

The Steamers first full season in 2008 saw the steamers finish in the top 6 of the midlands merit league playing at the legends sports club in Crewe next to bentley, unfortunatly the steamers could not compete in the knock out stages of the league. the 2008 season was a success in the terms of rugby league development in the crewe and nantwich area with many local players playing their first games and continuing to play. Moreover the link with the local MMU university made the side stronger and more experienced. highlights of the season included three players being named in the merit league team of the year,

In 2009 the steamers moved away from crewe to nantwich at the barony park, and formed a link with the leopard pub which unfortunatly has now shut, a new link with the red lion was formed. The success of the 2008 season can be seen in 2009 with many more new players from crewe and nantwich RUFC, Sandbach RUFC MMU Rugby league, Chester uni rugby league, Rylands RL. despite loosing the first Cheshire Challenge cup final to chester it was certainly felt that the steamers will win the cup in future, notable wins of 2009 include Wigan riversiders who in 2008 defeated the steamers by a long way. this shows the development and passion that the club has produced from its beginnings in 2003 to 2009.
