An update from me as Chairman, again as before very much in talking about our Key Themes as a Club but before I do I need to make you all aware of an Amazingly Exciting Evening your Committee has put together to help Celebrate our 25th Year as a Rugby Club.
We will be holding a “25th Anniversary Ball” .This will be held on our Rugby Pitch on Saturday the 24th of June.
This promises to be an amazing evening. We are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic Sub Committee who have been doing some amazing work in putting this together for you all. There will be Live Music, a 3 Course Meal and other entertainment to boot!
So this is my call to arms to all Players and Members: you have first refusal on Tickets for the Ball there are only 160 spaces and tickets are £60 each. I urge you to get in touch and book your ticket ASAP - speak to Mitch Bryan Mitchbryan89@yahoo.co.uk or Nicola Lloyd firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve and pay for your ticket. They will be going on general sale at the end of March.
In terms of our Key Aims as a Club to remind you all they are:
• Develop Mini’s Section
• Changing Facilities
• Player Retention/Development
• Develop 2nd Team
• Community Club
So where are we:
Develop Mini’s Section:
Firstly as a Club with our Partnership with Prior Park School we got into the RFU’s Rugby First Magazine - I think this is a first for the Club, article here for any of you interested.
We have also been playing some games with our Under 7’s and 8’s - heading to a very wet and cold Fairford for our first ever Mini’s fixture as a Club!
We played a 3 Team Tournament for our 7’s and 8’s at Swindon RFC with Marlborough and Swindon and have fixtures coming up this Sunday for our 7’s and 8’s at Minety, then the week after Sunday 5th of March sees us have a Home game with Fairford for our Under 6’s, 7’s and 8’s which we will hold at Prior Park. Then we close out the Mini’s season with an away game versus Marlborough for all 3 age groups again on the 12th March.
So some great progress being made here - we still run the sessions on a Saturday morning 9.30am till 11.30am so spread the word and feel free to come down and support on the 5th if you are around Cricklade!
Here we have some good news in that we now have Planning Permission approved to go ahead with the Temporary Facility at Fairview Fields.
This is great news as we are relatively proceedable in terms of getting this going. Currently we are just sorting Building Regulations and also some additional funding that will ensure we can complete the Project to the spec we want.
So watch this space - we may have had false dawns before but this time your Committee and myself personally are hugely determined to succeed and to get Facilities at Fairview Fields in time for next Season all being well! If there any of you who can lend any expertise, have trades that may support or would just like to get involved please don’t be shy.
This does still need some focus, hopefully the above will assist with this in giving us the ability as a Club with attracting new players and keeping players at CRFC.
I appreciate the commitment all you players give to the Club in Training Tuesday and Thursday and playing Saturday’s - sometimes injured or carrying knocks but still keen to get out on the pitch! Keep the spirit up amongst you all as that has always been our strength as a Club.
Develop 2nd Team
Nothing much to report here - we were trying to arrange a fixture titled as a Vets Game with Supermarine but we couldn’t get dates to agree. I am still keen to see what we can do here so again any ideas greatly received.
Finally, as you know we had the news of our beloved Club at Cricklade home being closed. This was very sad news indeed and it’s important we thank Sue and Dave Loder for their support of the Rugby Club over the time that was our home. So please do so if you see them around Town.
We have however been very fortunate to get the support of Gary Walker and the Leisure Centre for the remainder of the season and having attended after our first Home Game and after game food/entertainment it felt like a really good fit and I hope all of you felt comfortable in our new surroundings?
So that’s it for now some fairly good news with the Mini’s, Planning Permission being gained and the exciting news of the Ball for the Summer!
On the Pitch I know it was a slow start after Christmas but I watched a good win against Wootton Bassett and I believe we acquitted ourselves very well at the weekend against Top of the League so keep it going boys - I know Mark is keen as am I for a strong finish to the Season!
